Veritas alarm problem

So...from looking at the instructions we think it is the R8. I then searched my sisters house and found the main panel which having opened up found the battery!! It looks pretty easy to replace as just has a couple of clips on it (the previous owners even dated it june 02 so guess it is old!!). So i am happy to try changing the battery but has anyone done this and then had problems with it going off etc. The only downloaded instructions are all to do with the code etc.
We only have her code and not the installers code etc.
She is going to call a few local places tomorrow to see if they will fix it but will be annoyed at paying a fortune if we could do the battery ourselves!
Will let you know how it goes.0 -
change the battery, put the lid on and try reset or code reset.
nothing to lose.
a bad battery may be hot, warped or rattle when shook. Or it may be leaking acid (doesn't taste nice!!)
post back what happens.
easy to reset eng code, It may need two people but easy enough.0 -
whats is your make of alarm.?
Well on the instruction book (for what it's worth) it says Veritas. The alarm company that originally installed it some 10 years ago I tried to ring but got a bloke who was really angry cos he keeps geting calls about faulty alarms when he is has nothing to do with them, obviously the company has gone bust and this poor guy has inherited the old company telephone number.
Like I said I had a electrical fault which meant my power was off for about 8 hours, since then the alarm went totally beserk, now does nothing and from what I have researched the memeory has been totallly lost and can be a bit of a pig to reset. I have tried to get several companies to call but none are interested.
I may have to bite the bullet and buy a new system, but hoping someone knows of help out there.

My sister called a couple of local alarm companies who said roughly 80-95 +VAT call out and if battery £25+vat. Not sure whether they will fix it / reset it for the call out fee. One was very helpful...Davidboy are you near Oxford area?
Basically even if she needs a new one, someone will have to take the old one apart so i'm guessing she will have to pay them to come out and see what they say.
I was concerned at putting a new battery in and having the whole system going crazy and being stuck!
One person suggested that as her tamper light was flashing it may be a problem with electricity getting to the unit...or something like that!!
Might have a career change at that amount for probably less than an hours work!!
Will let you know once someone has been out!0 -
I have a flat in Slough which is where I have the problem. So not near enough to Oxford I'm afraid. I wouldn't mind paying £100 or so, cheaper than a new system.

Hi
Just to update you all. She found a local company who came out to look at it and it was just the battery which he replaced for £16. Unfortunately call out charge was £50 but at least it was all reset. He said the battery was completely dead and that they generally last about 5 years (hers was dated 2002 so had worked well).
At least it was peace of mind that it worked ok rather than getting a battery and then finding we could reset it!!
Thanks for all your help though...0
