Veritas alarm problem

Hi
My sister has a veritas alarm (this is all i can see written on it) which since having the power off in her house for a new bathroom has been playing up.

Both the unset light and the tamper light keep flashing, it has also started making an occasional cheeping noise. The other day an internal box started alarming and wouldnt turn off....i turned the mains power off which then caused the outside alarm to go off so i managed to get them both to turn off eventually!

I think she probably needs it looking out but the telephone number inside the unit doesnt exist. Is there a company that will service veritas alarms or who are the best people to contact? She is in the Oxford area. We dont have an instruction book

Thanks again!!

Sounds to me like the internal battery is dead.

These people happily took on servicing and up dating a system (that was fitted by someone else) for my parents not that far from Oxford or might know some one closer http://www.livewiresecuritysystems.co.uk/contactUs.asp

Do you think they are easy to change ourselves?

I will give that company a call and see what they say, hopefully wont cost too much as everything has just started falling apart!
    Thanks

    Hi,
recently had same issue after having some electrical work done on premises. The internal rechargeable battery needes to be replaced, usually 12v bought from local electrical wholesaler.
These units are manufactured by Texecom, pleasae see link below for downloading manual, hope this helps,

Check the battery with a meter.
    Replace if needed.
I'd replace anyway if you cannot test as it will only be around £10.

Otherwise replacing an alarm is fairly easy for anyone with a basic electrical understanding.
Basicly 6 core cable; 2 will be the switches, 2 will be the supply (to PIRs, firealarms, etc. not needed to door switches) and 2 will be the tamper (if even connected - the amount I see with these just linked out!)

Infact most of the difficult stuff will be done - splitting the 12V supply, running in the switchs/PIRs in series in different zones, cabling up to the bellbox, etc. will all be done.

Depending on how you get on with similar tasks you'll either find the programming easy or a little taxing but it can be figured out easy.
You'd just be matching zones up to the old zones really.
Maybe a few other settings like arm/disarm delay, double knock PIRs/switchs in rooms with pets/windy doors, etc.

Should be quite a nice little job for an afternoon.

Remember plenty of tea and biscuits.

    Cheers, Gary

Local high street shop, Maplins sell the correct rechargeable batteries but not cheap around £25.

Thanks for all the replies. In answer to your questions

MX5huggy - called them but they said where we are in Oxford is probably too far away.

LANGO1966 - i will have a look through as we cant tell what model number it is...it just has 'veritas' written on the front but hopefully there will be some pics in the downloads!!

As for my electrical knowledge....i could probably wire a switch (if i had instructions) so i'm not keen to start fiddling. Havnt even worked out how to take the case off the alarm yet. I'm sure the tamper wires will be intact as that it the light that is flashing.
I shall ask our Dad to come and look and try to have a spare battery ready to try!

Thanks for your help...i will insist she finds herself a new man with some good DIY skills!!

Can you let me know how you get on please. My alarm has died too. I had a power cut months ago now, obviously as said on here the batteries are dead, but from what I have found out the memory needs resetting because it has lost all it's info. I have tried for someone to come and fix it and no one will do it. I would be interested to see if you can get anyone.

    Thanks. :)

have a look at www.brewtime.co.uk they do all veritas parts including of batteries go for a 11v on at least
you can also download the manuals from veritas and they have if i remeber right a dedicated helpline. do you have a digital pad or a standard press button one. if digital it should tell you the code as long as you have the engineer code for the keypad
need to have a lightbulb moment
