Samsung S3100 - help needed with texting

I brought my Mum a Samsung S3100 the other week on that Dial a phone deal.
Mums struggled with picking up texting but did get the hang on this one but now Mum got stuck so I had a go and cant get it to work. Once you have entered the contact and message and click send it goes to a blank screen with 'enter centre' on.
Anyone know what this is about as need to sort it before Mum throws the phone across the room as she gets very annoyed at not being abel to text!!! Im not the best person to teach someone how to text but we did think we had sussed it!

What network is the sim card from? As the message centre number varies from network to network.0
