I am glad to see the DFW board becoming a bit more balanced between being positive and people being down (as it has been of late; I know it can be very hard at times)......
As we all know.....you get more of what you concentrate on.........so it makes sense to concentrate on being positive (or at least on the little things you can do to push you in the right direction).....
Now whilst that and what others have said makes perfect sense........I really must start to listen to it and act on it!:o
Whilst I am here, has anyone got any advise on.....when you know what you 'should' be doing (to be positive/take action etc) or how you 'should/shouldn't' react (to a situation/another person)........... how on earth do you stop acting or reacting automatically in the way you would normally? How do you go about breaking that cycle?0 -
chris - i try to remove myself from situations that wind me up (normally the kids lol) but i have found the more i am getting into a spiritual and better way of living my life, i can let the little things go over my head.
yes it is nice to see more positive threads on the dfw board is it is easy to get into the "my lifes a mess, im broke and my life may as well be over" mentality, while not wishing to take anything away from people who feel this way i think it is nice to show others that there are other ways of looking at things...ie glass half empty or full? and show them what we are all doing to keep the unhappiness at bay.

From one JD to another......well done on the post its spurred me on, and you know you'll get there. As for the negative comments I get those too and have learnt not to talk about debt amoungst my 'friends'. I only share on here and I always get a positive attitude. Yep, I know that's what I should do aswell...and I do try....I'm gonna sound like a heartless cow now, but the only person who winds me up this much is my mum:o a very long and boring story.....I am a person who would quite happily go for weeks without talking to/seeing people (other than work obviously)...whereas mum is always on the phone...I rang her Friday evening...she's rang 5 times over the weekend.......given that she leaves it for my brothers to ring her 'because they are busy/got their own lives to lead' you can see why I get wound up!
Now, I need to take up some zen like meditation to bring myself down to a reasonable level of calm.......;)0 -
Hello Everyone, .....(well it worked on the TV advert for the man selling mortgages:))
Changing your mood takes time & practice. Distraction - crossword, housework etc. - is a good one.
If you can start to look at your life piece by piece and say to yourself 'Do I need/want/deserve this?', and 'Will this be important to me in a year's time?', you may be surprised by the answers. And one by one, you can change what you want in your life. It's a strange - & hard - habit to get into but worth it.
I'm trying to adopt this attitude & I've found that it can leave you calmer and also you feel in control. Basically it comes down to the old adage, "Choose your battles wisely":) We don't have to make everything a battle. Trying to be right all the time (even though I am!;) )takes a lot of emotional energy & leaves you physically drained.
Am I preaching? sorry

tiff - great post! totally agree, changing things is hard but very worthwhile if it makes a happier more postive you! i feel calmer and more able to cope with any situation i find myself in, and strangely, the calmer i am the calmer the kids seem to be (which of course, is a huge bonus).
i have had to ditch a few things that made me unhappy and i still have a few more to go, but i think that changing things one by one, little by little, is the best way to do it!November NSD's - 70 -
