  • WOuld definately recommend the tower! There was so much to do in there, my dd(7) loved jungle jims! We didn't get to do the 3d cinema because she's a wussy pants and was too scared!! The circus was amazing! For the price I thought it was going to be a bit unprofessional, but it was really fantastic, so much so that my dd told me off for clapping too loudly! I apparently got a bit carried away! :o

I booked my tickets through ticketmaster but when we got there (last June) the local bustickets had a free child ticket offer on the back. Worth looking out for.

Restaurant wise, there is a 2 for 1 pub down Rigby Road, it's on the estate thingy with the vue cinema and the frankie and bennys. 2for1 pubs usually do okay food and very resonable.

    Hope you have fun x

Hi i live in fleetwood which is not too far from blackpool -the post about trams being closed from clevelys too fleetwood is right -most of blackpool doesnt have trams but they should re-open for summer but dont think it will be open to get to fleetwood to be honest even if they say it will be. last year our bus tickets started having buy 1 get 1 free vouchers printed on the back -at the moment it is buy 1 get 1 free at the sealife centre if you send me a message i will send you some out in the post and if i get any buy 1 get 1 free tickets for tower will send them out too :)

the sandcastle is brilliant for kids its a water park with lots of slides and things -they will try and get you to pay extra for the slides but dont pay it as your little 1s cant go on the big ones and a few little 1s are included in the price anyway -just not the longest water slide and the fast 1s.

coral island have 2 adult meals and 2 childrens meals for £6.99 at the moment and its ok in their and the kids will love the rides in their as their is a pirate 1 that goes in the air, tea cups, car rides etc and you should take them on the 3 piers even if they dont go on rides so they can look out to sea at the end of the pier

I'd stay clear of the pleasure beach with younger kids as you have to pay just to go in now :( manchester pub does have a reputation for being rough but to be honest i never walk my kids around at night and so never seen trouble their and trust me their are bouncers all over blackpool -it is a very safe place to be in my opinion

their is an odeon cinema and if your coming during school holiday it does do the kids club for a few pounds which is good and has a mcdonalds there too

the kids will love it and hopefully you will have a great 1st holiday with them :D xx

we are planning on going the 14th of June, kids are 5 and 1 - bit worried if I book the travelodge that the evenings will be a nightmare though as small family room - could anyone recommend better, but cheap, accomodation??

Also Stanley Park is a nice day out if the weather's good. There's a large playground that will be quiet during that week, trampolines, boating lake and a cafe for lunch. The number 20 bus will take you from the promenade to the park (it's the same bus that goes to the zoo - which also get's a thumbs up from me).

If you go inland from your hotel, the first main road you get to is Lytham Rd. Across the road is a vast car park and after that is a pub called the Yeadon Way. It's got a play area for the little 'uns and you can get a proper meal at least and it's within walking distance. http://www.multimap.com/maps/?zoom=16&countryCode=GB&qs=FY16BF
As others have said, you will have to change at Preston to get to Blackpool South but it will be closer to your hotel. You'll also see the Aldi if your after cheap picnic fodder.

There is also a Home Bargains not too far from the start of Lytham Road not too far from the prom (beside the tram depot) to stock up on drinks/crisps etc.

We stayed in the Travelodge in October last year and it was no problem at all, I would recommend the breakfast although it was £7.50 per adult it is an eat all you can with kids eating free. It mean't that it was late afternoon before we needed a snack. By the time you find a cafe you would easily spend that on 4 people and not eat nearly as much.

Wow! So many great ideas and helpful tips! I can't believe how helpful you all are! Update: I've now bought our train tickets and two adult tickets for the tower (they base free entry off height not age according to their website and eldest son just on the 90cm borderline so he might need a child ticket by next month but not sure!)

I'm glad the Travelodge brekkie is okay-I was a bit worried about it because I had read some horror stories on TripAdvisor and I've booked it for 2 of our 3 nights. (It's about £1 cheaper if you book brekkie online along with your trip!) I think I'll make a list of all the activities/restaurants you lovely lot have suggested and go through them with my other half as there's now way too many to fit into a short break like ours! Thanks everyone again!

get in touch with Blackpool tourist as they can send you maps or call into them when you get there, and often discount vouchers for things like the tower or sealife centre, loads of restraunts and take aways even within distance of travel lodge to take back to hotel, i also do take stuff i can add hot water to to do meals,,,,, corned beef smash! all you need is a tin of corned beef and a pack of smash bit of salad or coleslaw, there is huge shopping centre behind the promenade, you just got to explore. cup a soups are fab, ainsley harriot ones half price in sainsburys right now and taste good, all you need are a few plastic bowls spoons and bread!! free to go to is the rock shop in between the two piers, they do rock making every day you can watch!!! my little one just loves watching all the amusements!!!!! hope this helps a little
