Buying a TV with full HD

Options
My husband wants to buy a panasonic with full HD. He told me he will not need an HD box. At the moment we have got sky+. Is he right, I told him surely he needs to upgrade to sky HD? Thanks

You win. You can have a HD-ready TV, as I have, but unless you take the HD package from Sky, then that's all it is - Ready but waiting!

Superstar may be correct, you will need a HD receiver. However I see in a John Lewis advert today (Daily Express) that Panasonic are doing TV's with integrated Freeview and Freesat HD receivers. These will obviously not get Sky so you would still need a SKY HD box.
Also worth knowing that TV programmes are not broadcast in Full HD, ie 1080p, they come in 1080i. So the full benefit of full HD will only be seen if you have a full HD player of some kind.

Not really. You can get BBC HD, ITV HD and a few other free HD channels without needing to subscribe
  • There's a new batch of tv's coming out in
the next couple of Months ,Tv's with Freesat HD tuners
INCLUDING 3D, so hang back for awhile and be
bang up to date, Don't know if you can afford the 3D TV's
but the Freesat HD should be about the same price as the present TV's.

I don't see any mention of this TV including 3D.

Correct, but I was responding to the Freesat HD part of your response as that was what the OP was specifically interested in.
