Quinn-Direct - Anyone heard of them?

I just used Confused.com to search for Motor Insurance, and they came up with a company called Quinn-Direct. They appear to be an Irish company setting up in the UK, fully registered with the FSA etc. They only offer motor insurance at the moment, but it is about £100 cheaper than the next cheapest.
Has anyone had any experience with them?

As you say, they are a large established insurer in Ireland but 18 months or so ago launched in the UK too
Have no personal experience of what they are like either from a customer service point of view or more importantly from a claims perspectiveAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

cousins girlfriend works for them. They are based just up the road from me. They are a reliable enough outfit, big over here in Ireland. Hit the market about 10 years ago selling cheap insurance to younger drivers.0

I have a friend who had a car accident and was insured with this company.
It would appear that he was none to happy when he tried to get the claim sorted, as they would say in Ireland " slow as treacle "I am an Independent Financial Adviser with 26 years experience.0 -
icornish - you need to be alert on this one icornish - QuinnDirect have been on these forums some time ago and not all the comments were positive. I believe they are cheap but at the expense of cutting cover, suggest you go to their website and have a squint at their policy wordings on things like windscreen cover etc0

Thanks to everyone on this. I did search but could find them.. probably user error.
That said, I went to my current insurer, and they reduced their price a bit, but not the cover. I also went through the policies line by line (time consuming, but very revealing). Whilst I don't intend making claims (and haven't for many years), I don't want it to cause more stress than it does already.
Looks like I won't be shaving a full £100 off my car insurance this time around... But, sometimes being protected and having the customer support behind it is more important.3 Kids, 1 baby, 1 about to be born, 1 lovely wife, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, and 6 chickens... 1 big family!:rotfl:0 -
icornish - you could try Lloyds tsb via https://www.topcashback.com they will give you a good quote then get £110 cash back from TOPCASHBACK - worth a try0

Hi,
Haven't had direct dealings with Quinn Direct, but a friend hadn't read the fine print & discovered to late that they didn't include windscreen cover. I got my insurance in the middle of July through a broker for AIG, over £200 cheaper than AXA who I have been with for 2 yearsOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member No: 280 :T
Proud to be dealing with my debts

Quinn Direct have a very bad reputation in Ireland for the manner in which they deal with claims. I went with them (because they were so much cheaper.......you get what you pay for!), despite being advised against it by family and friends. The seemingly straightforward process of claiming for an accident in which a truck crashed into the back of my car, turned out to be an arduous, stressful ordeal. The worst thing about this company is the staff. They were incompetent and completly unprofessional. They really couldn't have made the process any more difficult. Although my insurance was cheaper, I've lost out big time in the long run. Just wish I had listened!!! Good luck!0
