How much would you charge to tile a shower?

I would like your price guidelines for retiling a bathroom. The tiles are not being removed but tiled over.
Floor and walls, marble tiles 10 x 10 cm's. Floor 2m2 and walls 12m2. Straight walls and corners, no weird recessed pipework or boxes on wall anything.
How much is reasonable charge and how long would it take, given that apparently they are quite difficult to lay due to no two tiles being quite the same?
Thanks!

depends where you are but £25m2 for walls, £30m2 for floors seems to an approximate price here for tiling as a single job including adhesive/grout0

Whoever suggested tiling over tiles, if he professes to be a professional tiler, kick him into touch, no professional would do that. He's a cowboy and thats being nice.
Its like a professional decorator papering over paper. Not professional at allmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Exactly, OP you will be calling him back within 3 months about tiles falling off and every week after that, and he will ignore you and you will be hopping mad and then you will end up on here asking what to do and then 6 months down the line you will be at the small claims court.
For your own sake, dont do it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I've already done it!
Darn!
I actually posted because I'm in a process of working out how much to pay the builder that I've just fired due to him not wanting to be on the job and his team being obviously incompetent. He's already agreed not to charge me for the plastering in the apartment which was very bad but I'm trying to figure out what is a reasonable fee for the tiling in the shower. Are you really serious that the tiles are going to fall off? If that's the case then I shouldn't pay him at all for it. I have a feeling he is going to charge me at least 1000 for the tiling and removing old toilet and old shower door. The quote was for entire bathroom work and only the tiling has been done so I have never known the breakdown for the tiling itself. What shall I do? I really don't want to pay for crap work. Is tiling over old tiles a bodge job no matter what or is that just a matter of opinion and everyone's opinion will vary? I don't want to be unfair and I do want to be well informed when I make my statements. Help!0 -
I am just a normal householder and have taken lots of information from these forums, i will retire now and let the professionals take over.
Start another thread somewhere and ask for information about tiling over tiles and when you get your answers make your mind up.
Its amazing how many people do tile over tiles though but its not a professional way to do it.
Next time, get some recommendations from previous customers and go and see any building work they have done.
Good luck, (make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Tiling over tiles is fine, giving the existing tiles are sound/solid, and they are de-greased and primed, and quality adeshive is used. Upto 3 layers of tiles are often found in comerical buildings. I have seen 1000's of meters of tiles done this way, and been back 7yrs later and they are still stuck.
So its not a cowboy job if done correctly. If if you say your builder is a nuppty, then thats another matter.A thankyou is payment enough .0 -
Hi there
I'm in The Netherlands Plasterer. My team are British expats, like me.
Regarding tiling over.... I'm a bit concerned because part of the reason for redoing the shower was that the tiles on the walls were not sound, or the grout wasn't and the wall had become wet all the way through to the other side of the wall (breeze blocks and concrete I think) and the outer wall of the shower room had badly bubbled up over a space of about 1sq metre or so. I think water from people taking showers had been leaking through for some time. So I was of the understanding that they were taking care of the real issue at hand which was an unsound surface and tiling over but I didn't check, because I totally trusted them (stupidly). The next thing I knew the wall was tiled over and the outer wall replastered (badly). A week on, they are not coming back and I need to figure out what to pay them. I would also love to figure out if the work is any good and whether it is likely to last. Is there any way of testing? Would people charge a lot more for laying marble 10 x 10 tiles? thanks very much!0 -

Weight limits are there for a reason
