Oh god, the urine didnt work!!!!!!

So my chooks moved house to my friends for a little while.

They have just under an acre of land and we set up house etc right near the property. Her garden is flat and completely open ie all laid to lawn.

She got he hubby to pee round the perimeter and they have hung a bag of his freshly cut hair (apparently this works, obviously doesnt)

Anyway she has just called to say she looked out of the kitchen window to see the chickens nose to nose with a fox at half six broad daylight!!!

Help i dont want them to get eaten

If a chicken was nose to nose with a fox, then it should already have been taken.

Pen them in and move them close to the house, this may work, or get them a safe enclosed moveable run.
Foxes will come out at different times in different places.

Since the hunting ban, I don't think Foxes are scared of humans any more.

He he he I was just thinking that, one almighty peee. No think they meant the perimeter of the chicken house and run.

They are penned in and they were nose to nose through chicken wire, although fox could have jumped over as only 4 foot

I have asked them to enclose it on top.. but why did the fox just sit there... he'll be back thats for sure

In parts of cities they have never been scared of humans.

    It's really annoying.

    Need big-cat urine.

Knew someone who kept lion as pet before the dangerous animal act came into being and believe me, nothing intruded in his garden.

I am a little suprised as were in a rural area and the foxes arent as used to humans as the city ones. Even when the husband started shouting it still didnt budge...

It may be that its a fox that is ill then - most healthy foxes will not come out in broad daylight and the reason he was outside the pen may be that he was working out how difficult it would be. The fact that he didnt move when shouted at is unusual, I know we have a fox den in the next field but we never see foxes by day.

All you can do is pen them as soon as they go to bed at night and ensure they are locked in nice and tight - it has been known for foxes to take doors off the hen house if they are desperate.

Do you know anyone who is a gamekeeper or can shoot it? Our gamekeeper has a steady supply of eggs in return for keeping the foxes down to a manageable level around here. Alternatively if they are already penned how about an electric fence around the perimiter?

I've had a fox sitting on top of the hen house just watching, in broad daylight. I went to shoo it off and it just looked at me. Next door thought it was a stray dog :rotfl:
Best thing is to have a fox proof enclosure, even have an electric fence if you can afford one. I've seen devastation form a fox and it's not nice :(
I get paid to smell great :j
