Fibroids!

Hiya
Well after years of heavy bleeding and feeling rubbish every month, my doctor has sent me for a scan! I had the scan last week and they found a fibroid, it measure 6cm by 4 cm and now I have to wait for results to go back to my gp. I asked the sonographer what they would do for a fibroid and she said it all depends on where you are with your family as Hysterectomy would be best option!! I did not think it was that serious, although I am 37 and my kids are grown up, but it just seems so final!
Any experiences??????
P.S - Not looking for medical opinion as I know the Rules just experiences!

My mum had fibroids so I've had a bit of a look at what happens in case I get them.
This page is from the NHS and gives lots of info. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Fibroids/Pages/Introduction.aspx
Can't give advice but that page is pretty comprehensive. Once you know a bit more you could search for particular therapies etc.
Good luck x.
My mum had a myomectomy about a year after I was born. Two and a bit years later she had my brother and has had no problems (ie didn't grow back)since then. (1972)
It's only a game

I had a hysterectomy because of fibroids; it was one of the best things that ever happened to me. (45 at the time and childfree).0

It must have been a shock to have heard this "advice", a bit like using a seldgehammer to crack a nut. You can have fibroids removed without a hysterectomy but they may always recur. Most are benign but remember they are composed of uterine tissue, are never convenient and can always lodge in the most unexpected places!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

i had op to just remove the fibroid ( which was still a major op )but it recurred and needed a hysterectomy several years later anyway.
with hindsight would probably been better to have had hysterectomy straight away but it seemed quite drastic and by the time i did have it i was coming up to menopause anyway
good luck with everything0 -
Ahhh thanks for replying!
It was a shock just thought she would say they would remove it! Apparently mine is in a bit of an awkward place bang in the middle instead of to the side! Ive done loads of research but I suppose until I go I will not get the def answer Im looking for, just worried as I I dont really want a hysterectomy although it would solve my problems!

I had a hysterectomy a few weeks ago. I had fibroids and endometriosis and for me it has been a huge relief. I am on the mend and feeling better with each week that passes. I can already tell that the constant pain I used to get has at least reduced and fingers crossed may go altogether when I am fully recovered.
Good luck, if you don`t want it done then ask your consultant what other options you have. If you have any questions or want any more info please feel free to pm me.
Oh and as well as not having the monthly pain/bleeding horrors I am delighted to report that I no longer have the evil PMT I used to get.0 -
Hiya
Thanks for replying!
Did they give you options???, you see I also have endemtrosis, have done for last 15 years and had a couple of ops through keyhole to remove adhesions, thought I was all clear but also nooooooo:(
Its just a bit of a shock thats all!!

My mum had uterine fibroids and breast ones and suffered for years. She didn't want a hysterectomy and that was all she was offered for them. She also suffered CRAZY pmt, they seem to be linked and I already have that so fingers crossed I don't inherit the fibroids...
Lucklily she finished the menopause early (aged 48) a month ago and they have all vanished, she feels great now. That doesn't really help you at 37 though, sorry.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Yeah I know that the problem, i think they planning on me having this hysterectomy as the sonographer did not mention me having op to remove it, just hysterectomy! I have researched and seen that you can have an op but as another poster said they just grow back so I think that is why it is not an option for me. I suffer so badly every month, my whole life changes, I cant do anything and I look about 4 months pregnant!
Thanks so much it helps to talk!
