    ADAWARE ~ im positive

Might have misinformed re "sleep mode", I meant re power options in control panel, I had;-
Turn off monitor after 5 mins
Turn off HD after 5 mins
    System standby after 10 mins
    System hibernates after 15 mins

Have set all these to "never" for now.

Id never set to switch off the hardrive. Thats just asking for trouble

I hope you realise that youll sometimes need to reboot to get the microsoft updates working ok and that for them to install it may need more than 15 mins to install (Service packs can take hours on some computers). So having all that lot switched on isnt helping one little bit

Did you try startuplite - it will take out the most common bloat startup apps.

Avg isn't the best, especially an old version, and you have defender, asquared, superantispyware, and spybot all resident, they all take up resources (you only have 512MB) and overlap functionality.

This doesn't look good, presumably you did the hjl before the malwarebytes scan?

    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Update System Shell] svhostcs32.exe

If it's this, it shows how ineffective your current security setup is, it's been around since 2005, and none of your security software has picked it up.

Id recommend uninstalling the MSN TOOLBAR SUITE

Id recommend upgrading your RAM as 1gig would see quite an increase in speed

    As you have trojans ~

    Please run COMBOFIX
    http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
    Shut down your anti virus
Follow the simple instructions it gives
Post the COMPLETE log it creates here (Split into sections if need be) ~ if there are loads of 'SNAPSHOT' pages then leave them out

If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe') Or SAVE as 'QWERTY' on download

Yes, it only showed 5?, I removed 2.

No, I did as Rick suggested, and as his post #10.

    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Update System Shell] svhostcs32.exe

Well it is only recently that I have had this slow down problem, which is not regular, as I said earlier, the computer is running very fast today.
I have used the security as posted in my OP as many others have to, so maybe it is not that relevant? I have had this computer since June 2004.

I appreciate I may need to update the computer, but as most of the time it runs OK, I don't see the need to, I only use it for surfing, e-mails and the odd TV prog, (IPlayer etc), no gaming or anything of the like.
I am sure I would benefit from more ram, and am prepared to do this if it is easy enough, not expensive and would benefit me by the computer running better.

You don't really need more ram, if you limit what runs at startup, look in task manager, performance tab, peak commit charge, if that is more than 512MB, your pc will slow down

What were the 3 startuplite suggestions you ignored?

The malwarebytes scan says it deleted the infection, but it's still in the hjl log, which is why I asked the order.
