TV will be used for watching TV (obviously) playing Xbox, Wii, connecting computer to and Movies.
OK next question what sort of price am I looking at for a good LCD with decent sound and would that be cheaper than having to buy external sound?0 -

Samsungs are generally bad for playing games on due to LAG
As for sound, unless your willing to pay 1200 quid or more then youll need some form of external sound, unless your willing to put up with 'so so' sound quality:idea:0 -

Much appreciated guys, few more questions.
Is 100hz worth it?
Whats the basic specs you should look for in a TV?0 -
For the sound quality of this TV, the reviewers seems to have different opinions. Some find it !!!!!!, some find it adequate but no more, and others seems to have been happily surprised, probably after setting the TV up to Trusurround.
I think it depends on what you are used to and your expectations.
It might be alright for the OP, but it would have helped if the OP had said what the TV would be mainly used for.
Then again, when your finances are limited, you need to compromise.
Better have a good picture and bad sound, as the sound can be improved with external speakers.
Trusurround does nothing useful except amplifies the tinnyness and the boom which makes it sound even worse than normal. You need external speakers for it otherwise the sound quality WILL p1ss you off after a while.0 -

What sort of lag are you talking about? Assuming you're talking about online play then the lag will be more likely to do with bad ping than the TV itself. I play COD4 on mine and don't suffer from any picture lag, or at least it isn't noticeable if it is there. :huh:As for sound, unless your willing to pay 1200 quid or more then youll need some form of external sound, unless your willing to put up with 'so so' sound quality

Input LAG. The time taken between the tv receiving the signal and actually displaying it on the screen. It would also have a slight time delay on audio if plugged into an external source with no facility to counteract it
Samsungs have some of the worst LAG times on record
This is one of the worst ive seen ~
http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/Samsung-LE40B650/Picture-Quality.htm
"We measured the input lag on the LE40B650 to be around 84ms to 100ms slower than our resident Samsung F96 LED-backlit LCD TV (which had [Game Mode] enabled)"
That said, GAME MODE tends to bring lag down to acceptable levels (ok for gaming, no good for watching a movie whilst listening through an av amp with no 'delay' control though):idea:0 -

Dont read ANYTHING into specs as most are meaningless to the actual picture quality. Goto a reputable source for reviews
For example ~

Once you think youve chosen one, goto AV FORUMS to see if there are any faults with that tv (LAG for playing online, screen burn, backlight bleed etc etc):idea:0 -
