    Thanks Tim

The salesman described other mattresses as one continuous wire from bottom to top (may be open coil but not exactly sure) which again dont really like feel. Do you think the foam top on the ultra health is too thick also? And due to the slats being curved would this not affect the way the mattress lies on them if I were to install hardwood/pegwood?
You also mentioned the density of the foam what would you say should be the minimum/average density?
Again thank you for your time

Ah, a continuous spring system. This is the most unreliable springs system avaialable. It is the same as the Miracoil system, stay well clear.

70mm is a little too deep unless you like being very warm in bed. 50mm would be better if you don't.

Hardboard and peg board are very flexible, so they will easily bend with your sprung slats.

The optimum density is a compromise. If the density is too low then it won't give very good support, and isn't really worth having. If it is too high then it will give very good support, but will have a very slow recovery rate and so will make it very difficult to change position.

Tim, hope you don't mind me asking but you seem to know your stuff!

What would you say is the absolute best all rounder value for money out there right now? I mean if it's a great mattress for a few hundred that's cool, if it's an amazing mattress for double (or even triple) that then I'd consider that too. Obviously going into shops and testing them out is good, but I feel it only tells half the story in terms of how long they'll last, how they feel after a nights sleep, how hot they get at night etc

    Cheers!!

I'm afraid I can't recommend anything on MSE, as it could be viewed as advertising.

You are right about trying a mattress out in a shop though. 10 mins fully clothed can only give a very rough idea. You really need to be able to sleep on a mattress for a few nights to know for sure. This is why I suggest you buy from a seller who gives a proper satisfaction guarantee.

Thanks Tim - I was thinking about the proper guarantee but then realised it'd probably mean that the matress I got from them would already be a used one! :D

Nothing at all you'd recommend in particular? Not even via pm?! ;)

    Hello blizeH

Tim has explained that he is not allowed to advertise, it is against the Forum Rules:

Why can't I give something to/buy something from someone on the forum?

The safety of our forum users is paramount and for this reason we can't allow anyone to exchange their personal details either on the open forum or via PM, however honourable the intention.

This means we don't allow selling/trading/exchanging/swapping or giving as gifts, nor links to your ebay auctions, or other forms of advertising.

The above quote is taken from the Forum Rules. The full list of Forum Rules can be viewed as shown at the top of the page:

Many thanks for the heads up Nile, bit of a shame though that people like Tim can't impart their knowledge properly! But I can definitely see your reasoning :)

They wouldn't be able to sell a used mattress as a new one. They would have to clearly state that it had been used.
