Specsavers Rant

Options
Having varifocal lenses I was very interested in the earlier thread about Specsaver lenses and when I had my eyes tested by them I asked about the hoya lenses. My frames are comfortable and good so thought it would be cheaper to have them in my frames but the cost was £198. If I bought a new frame for £69 the price of frame and lenses was £170.25!!!!
Left totally confused and did not buy either!
Plus on their website it states"25% off all glasses and lenses" but this does not apply if you buy lenses for your existing frames!
Anyway I am going to another options to see what they can offer.

Yes, I went to an independent local place when I got my glasses, the prices were reasonable, and he credited my NHS voucher for twice the amount D&A would have.

If you want decent varifocals you SHOULDN'T GO TO SPECSAVERS. Worst decision I ever made, worst varifocals I've ever had - well, not strictly true, second worst. The worst ones were the first lenses they fitted.

After some good advice from someone on here I requested a change of lens from the ones they'd just put in (to my existing frames) "top of the range" Pentax Independence. Yeah, top of their range, bottom of everyone else's! Never had such a narrow field of vision with any other varifocals. More blurred area than clear IMO.

Advice was to switch to Sola One HDV which are definitely better, but frankly my previous Nikon Ultra's from D&A were still better than these for all round vision (& they were no longer D&A's 'best' ones either - in the 2 years I'd had them more improvements had been made).

Specsavers even got my left distance prescription incorrect, not the 'measurement' they had meant to put in apparently.

Never, never again. It has taken months to adapt to blurred edges and I'm still not happy when I pull out of my small side road on to the duel carriageway every morning, on dark days I see 4 headlights on oncoming cars!!!****

Going to a third world country for my holiday in July, planning to see if I can get a better pair than Specsavers there.

I had some new glasses recently from Specsavers and was totally confused by their "clear pricing policy":rotfl:

I wanted one pair photochromic but not bi-focal, other pair bi-focal but not photochromic. Well that was it!!! Even they were confused over which "offer" was applicable. Then of course did I want slim lenses or extra slim lenses, did I want this on it did I....oh flippen eck, by the time all was added on that I wanted, it cost a fortune. I ended up cancelling things.

In the end I paid....bear in mind one pair were "free" & each frame was £125,......£269

I think in future I will try else where, unless I get my eyes lasered of course..;)

I have used Specsavers the last two times. i have extra thin and light, varifocal and reaction lenses, they cost me around £290 but the independant were going to charge me £410.

Never had a problem, good customer service, any problems have been dealt with in minutes.

    Specsavers for me every time.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

D & H won't put new lenses in your existing frames. They SAY it is because when they send your frames off then they are not covered by their insurance.

Tosh! they just want to sell frames and lenses.
  • specsavers are in a class of their own when it comes to incompetence. i'd rather pay a bit more and get a decent service without lots of errors.

Seeing you might be living close , I suggest you try the Spec savers in St Albans .

I willing ( and have done ) paid over £500 for a single pair of glasses . Money therefore is not an issue , when It comes to my sight. But I go to Spec Savers In St Albans because of the service I get .
