last year my aunts god-daughter died suddenly. she was married with teenage children and although i had only seen her in town for brief chats i still felt i should write something personal in the card i sent to her family.
I wrote that (name), was a lovely person and had touched the lives of many people. that even though i knew her best when she was a child i still enjoyed meeting and chatting to her when out shopping.
How proud she was of her family and that i felt I knew them through her.
that I was (names) regular babysitter as a baby and toddler and that she never failed to cut a new tooth whenever i babysat her. but was such a little trouper it was a pleasure to mind her.
and lastly to say that i would miss not seeing her and that a little light had gone out of the world.0 -
Hi Linz
Don't know if you have written your card, but can I just say, having lost a daughter myself to a suicide, I think a letter is more appropriate, it seems more personal. I think its great that you are writing to the parents, especially after the funeral, as most people just get on with their lives once the funeral is done. I still have the cards that were sent to us a whole bag full and havn't had the courage to look at them yet, knowing it will reduce me to tears yet once again, but I know one day I will when the time is right. All the advice I can give you is to speak from your heart, if you've not been through it you can't understand, but just knowing that someone is thinking about you at this awful time is something not to be sniffed at. Good luck with your words, and if your brave enough a phone call wouldn't hurt, even if they do all the talking, that's probably what they want to do. Oh yes and one last thing, please mention the name of the person who died, people are so frightened to mention their name incase it upsets you but in my experience I love to hear my daughter's name. (Sorry if I've gone on a bit). Take careVanquis card -£915.45
