I would appreciate any advice on how to, in simple easy terms, transfer everything that is in MS Office Suite to openofficeorg?
For those of you that have read previous threads, we've decided in the meantime to opt for oppenoffice org instead of purchasing another Office Suite.

People like you make me laugh whos going to know that you installed it twice ;P not like your gonna have a microsoft rep at your door.0

By "everything that is in" do you simply mean your own files? I'm confused? These are simply files stored on your computer in perhaps the My Documents directory and they Open Office will be able to access and open them even after Office has been uninstalled0

Sorry, we don't know much at all about the tech side of pcs as you will have already gathered. It is files like "My Pictures", My Documents", we are referring to. Are these held in the Office Suite, we haven't a clue.
There are some downloads for example that open with Adobe reader - are they held in the Office Suite?0 -
Removing MS Office will not remove your My Documents or My Pictures folders-these are entirely separate from Office. Office is a program (or more correctly a suite of programs). Those folders are just data files, though you may have created some of them with Office programs, such as Word or Excel. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks macman for explaining about the files, now we understand a bit more about files we can plod on and remove MS Office.
We all have to learn some where and this has been one heck of a learning process for us as novices to the tech side of pcs:)0 -
You may find some of the formatting is a little different in OpenOffice but it is normally not a major issue.
MSOffice macros will not work but hopefully I am not insulting you by suggesting that if you used macros in MSOffice you probably wouldn't need to ask the question.
When you install OpenOffice it should offer you an option to associate Excel, Word and Powerpoint files with it so that if you click on them in explorer they will open in Calc, Writer and Impress0 -

Thanks for your advice, it is appreciated. You are not insulting either of us at all as we are new to all of this and the only way we can learn is by getting all the help we can. We appreciate your help as it is something else we have learned. You are 100% correct we haven't a clue what "macros" is:)0 -
We've now removed the Office Suite but can't find any of our "My Documents" or "My Pictures", the folders are showing as "Empty Folder" - any ideas what has happened or where we can find them?
It's not a total disaster as we did save files around 2 wks ago but if they are still on pc some where all the better.0 -
Phew, found them:j
Some things appear to be different since deleting the Office suite, takes a bit of getting used to. Browsers had to be re-installed but managed that okay.0
