Finally had a letter today from Housing that they have moved me up 2 bands to Band 2, as they feel i need to be moved to a more suited home ASAP. Great :j
But, on benefits, ESA, DLA....
there is so much to think about, i don't have spare money for carpets, (if i fall I'll hurt myself on non carpeted cement floors)
Is there any finacial help that disabled are allowed to apply for?
worry no 2 is i don't want to ask for the money just as i am moving, knowing it could take weeks and i would of moved by then..
Help with some advice would be lovely, have no savings at all

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Thats brilliant that they will be moving you to more suitable housing asap.
I am not sure if you would be able to get either a crisis or budgeting loan but it might be worth a try.

Would prefer new carpets, clean, i know where they have come from they could have half a dozen cats with lots of flea eggs in the carpet.
But good thought thanks.0 -

I did think of these, are they something i can apply for before i move?, i hope to have a month, aka perhaps i might be eligible for discretionary payment on HB to pay for both property rents, which gives time for applying for funds and finding out weather i can have them /and money to come through.. does that make sense?0 -

It does make sense Mupette but I dont know much about how it all works. I just remembered having read about them before. Perhaps you should ask the council about the discretionary payments to give you a better idea. Hopefully someone else in the know wil come along soon.
Good luck0 -

HB rarely pay HB for two properties, although I am going to give it a dam good try on Wednesday when I sign the tenancy for my new house.
Carpets etc I don't know if a CCG would be of any help?

Forgot to add also I have been given a decorating grant don't know if it's applicable for every council but when I sign the tenancy I will get £250 in B&Q vouchers  could have knocked me down with a feather when they gave me this information, never had one before.*SIGH*0 -
It's a while ago now, but when I worked for a Housing Association we often gave decorating grants. However HB is AFAIK only EVER paid for 2 weeks on two properties.
I'd talk to your housing officer now, and see what help (if any) they can give. Also if you are offered a property by a HA, talk to them too.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Good luck, hope you get it. I am sure this would be a good reason why it could be used, i can't move with in days, it will take me a while to gather and box, although i am starting as soon as french exchange student goes home (he arrives Saturday for 2 weeks)

I'm not in a care home, so the ccg may not be something they will let me have, but thanks for the info there.
I won't get a decorating allowance, that's kinda been wiped out down here, plus the properties i am bidding are new builds so the should not need them, everything should be nice clean and new, but obviously no carpet. It's a while ago now, but when I worked for a Housing Association we often gave decorating grants. Yes will ring them Tuesday as my rent management team are fantastic, will speak with them first as i seem to get a lot of helpful advice from them, and make sure i go to the right departments.0 -
The other possibility - faint, but there nevertheless! - is that they will know of local charities who might be able to help.Signature removed for peace of mind0
