Email address for business

I pay £40 a year for a server account so I can set up as many email addresses as I want, choose the spam filters I want, store a few files and generally do anything I want. Limits are more than enough for my needs.
Domain names can be added as and when for personal and business use. Considering how much I use the web it really is small change...equivalent to buying 4 CD's for instance.0 -
Dont use a free service for your business you cheapskate! uk domains can be bought for under £3 per year! Spend your lunch break buying a domain name instead of going to subway, you make a profit! Google 'heart internet' for probably the cheapest uk domain registration. I have used them for years.0

Having just returned from Subway (over 10 miles away so unlikely!) with my expensive buttie I will now do as I am told - well not really! Yes sir - doffs cab menially!
Thanks to everyone who answered my original enquiry. As I said, I am only looking for an email address, I don't need a website. I would particularly like to thank wontfallforit and utilitybroker who reminded me that in fact gmail and googlemail are interchangeable and that's the route I plan to take. I'd completely forgotten about that but remember recommending it to someone myself a while ago. I do small bits of freelance work for public agencies and just want to keep those emails and documents separate from home stuff.
I don't need to show that I'm a business nor to do any marketing etc so a domain name type email address isn't necessary but thanks to everyone who took the trouble to send all those good ideas - if I ever decide to expand I'll remember to look back here.
Thanks again

This is what I do too.

I was told about a google service which isnt free but is economically priced and you can do your business stuff on it including email without cluttering up your computer. I was told that it is google apps premium which costs £33 per annum and you get a drop box, calendar, email addresses etc. You get a service level agreement with this app so if google has a problem and goes down for days or even hours, they contact you and let you know and give you extra hours or days at the end of your agreement.
It might be worth looking at this as you can keep your work separate from your personal stuff.0 -
i used reg123 for my business email charged something silly like £20 for 3yrs, which was a good deal for my company name.co.uk to be in the addy.0

For the 'cheap and cheerful' approch, I really reccomend registering a domain with 123reg (or whoever) for £3 and taking a look at Microsoft Office Live. Free online document storge etc, up to 100 free email address (through hotmail, but in the form you@yourdomain.co.uk and free website (www.yourdomain.co.uk). Not bad for free!
(edit: sorry - they wernt supposed to be actual links, but I don't know how to unlink them!)0
