Email address for business

Can anyone recommend a webmail service I could use for business stuff? Ideally I'd like a gmail one but when I try to open a new account I'm only offered googlemail which sounds silly, similarly yahoo and hotmail. I have gmail for personal and other stuff as I like the other things that google offers, such as documents/ calendar etc and being able to access it all wherever I am. I don't have a business as such, so don't need an email with a business name, I just want to keep my freelance stuff separate from personal but without a childish sounding name when I give out my email. I've had a gmail account for ages now, so don't understand why I can't get another but googlemail seems to be the uk version.
Oh yes, - and free please!!!
Any ideas gratefully received
Thanks

Why dont you use a service such as www.123-reg.co.uk where you can get your business name as a domain name and make an email from that?
Say your business was called Blue Apples Limited you could get www.blueapples.com as the domain and get a general email address of hello@blueapples.com and a personal one of downshift@blueapples.com.When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
or use daily.co.uk or godaddy.com ..
If you intend to get a website avoid those who say "umlimited" bandwidth/space/transfer - it doesn't exit.0 -

Google didn't check who owned the trademark in Europe before setting up Gmail and subsequently a German company who owns the trademark threatened to take them to court if they used it in Europe.
Hence if you are in a European country and got a Gmail invite before the masses you would have a Gmail account, after the German company threatened to take Google to court so to prevent legal action all the subsequent address Google gave out were googlemail ones.
This means I have 2 gmail addresses and the rest are googlemail addresses.
One thing you can do is when setting up a web domain from a cheaper site is forward the emails to a specifically set up Googlemail account. That way you can store and search the emails with ease.
I do that for one of my domains as the web interface for the email account is a pain to use and there is limited storage space.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
and for anyone that likes outlook mail2web.com offer free email addresses and outlook.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0

If you want to stick with Gmail, think about the basic Google Apps service. You register a domain name with Godaddy - that only costs US$10 a year. And then you can have a website and as many email addresses as you want. Works well for me.0

Yes as Ipgm says, the Standard Edition of Google Apps would be perfect for you. Buy a cheap domain name via 123-reg.co.uk or other domain host, signup to Google free standard service and link your newly purchased domain to the Google account. Get free email (webmail), docs, calendar, sites, all linked to business domain name and branded if you so wish.0

******@live.co.ukI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -
I note you dont want to pay anything and you dont have a business name you wish to use.
If you register a googlemail account lets say easterbunny<a>googlemail.com
You can still give out your email address as easterbunny<a>gmail.com as incoming mails will still reach you at either address.
Another alternative is ymail see http://new.mail.yahoo.com/addresses0 -

Set up a 'googlemail' account, and quote your email address as "@gmail.com". It works just the same, and it's how I use my own googlemail address.£1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50/£600
HSBC 8% 12mth regular savings = £80 out of a maximum remaining allowance of £2500
"3 months' salary" reserve = £00 / £3600 :eek:0 -
I'd get a domain name. Anything like @live.co.uk,googlemail etc shows you are a small concern and hence might not be the impression you wish to give out. Domain names are cheap. I'd never use a free service for business emails - you need to be sure you have redress in the event of problems.0
