Armitage Shanks dual flush button removal

Hi,
I have an Armitage Shanks toilet with dual flush. The toilet / pipes have recently started making a lot of noise while the toilet is refilling and I want to take the lid off to see if I can see something inside that could be making the noise.
The problem is that I can't work out how to take the lid of the toilet. The dual flush button is in the middle of the lid and I can't work out if this must somehow unclip to allow you to remove the lid. Can anyone help?

I have an Armitage Shanks Sandringham Toilet. The Lid lifts straight off with the flush buttons attached. There is a plastic plate attached to the buttons under the lid.

The lid won't lift off mine and when you try to lift it, it seems like it is trying to lift the whole flush0 -

push down one of the two buttons, pinch the button still standing, with your fingers and pull upwards. do the same with the remaining button. you should now see the grub screw, remove this, then just lift the cistern lid off. good luck.0 -

Thanks, that seems to have worked :T although unfortunately the grub screw isn't in very condition so was difficult to turn (I hope I can get it back on again).
Now I have the lid off it seems like the noise is being caused by the cellophane tube inside which has a hole in it which is causing it to become tight and vibrate. Does it seem possible that this could be causing it to make the noise? Will I be able to get just a new cellophane tube or will I need to get a whole new flush mechanism?0 -

can you see a name on the flush mechanism??, as most are adjustable.
double check noise is not comming from filling valve or ballcock.0 -

I can't see a name on it anywhereThe noise is coming from the filling valve part of it rather than the flush itself. I was looking at this diagram here http://www.thebluebook.co.uk/Installation/4151%20ub%20VALVE.pdf which is a similar set-up and it seems to be the delivery tube as when i hold it or move it around while the toilet is filling, the noise seems to stop.

would suggest changing diaphragm washer, if the washer has gone slack this could cause the plunger to vibrate. once you have it stripped down hold a cup turned upside down over the valve body ( not actually touching the valve body) and have someone turn the water supply back on very slowly for a couple of seconds, this will make sure there is no debris behind the diaphragm washer.
before refitting, make sure all parts are clean and scale free.
check that the steady pin on the valve stem is tight against the cistern wall, and the lock nut is tight. also check the lever arm connection nut is tight.
you could also turn the bridge piece outlet to a different position.
hope this helps, good luck.0 -
