Firewalker wrote: »Pickle, thanks and, yes, a small disagreement can become a full blown argument that encompasses life, the universe and all else. This is life! Also for the first thing I have it in writing that I am fluent in English - although OH argued that I am not fluent but have a chieved mastery. Go figure....
I think it's splitting hairs, although if you don't mind me saying 'for the first think I have it in writing' is not idiomatic ('for the first time' instead?) I fail to see how you can 'master' a language without being fluent in it. I am, to all intents and purposes 'fluent' in French on a day-to-day- basis, but there are still things I do not know (names of birds etc.), so I cannot claim that I have 'mastered' the language, but on the whole your level of English is so high that I think you could say that you have both mastered the language and are fluent.
Answer me this: can you describe how a car enging works in English (at least, if you are not intimate with the finer workings of certain enging parts, do you know as much in English as you do in Bulgarian/Russian)?
Also, to be fair to your OH I don't get to hear you speak English very much, so when you speak you may make the odd mistake here and there, but I doubt that there are many, or that they are severe. :cool:Please call me 'Pickle'

I can do anything in English - except spell and when I write (in any language) I do not do commas. Typos are also a problem. And I speak better than I write (and I have published a number of articles and a co-authored book - all in English). It is true in Bulgarian I wrote fiction as well.
And 'think' should read 'time' - I do think faster than I write so was probably several sentences ahead.
OH was out of order - on many counts. But what concenrs me is not whether I am fluent in English or not - I make a living by writing in English, and lecturing around the world in English so I am probably passed the fluency debate. What I was furious about is that this kind of thinking stops him and he cannot even see it.
Take care, Pickle.

To mark or not to mark? This is the question. And today a decision was reached fairly early in the day – not to mark. It is Sunday and as important as it is marking could wait for another day or two. Because although it is important it is certainly not on the critical path of anything important I want to achieve.
Instead most of the day was spend on developing my dream-lines. Probably not perfectly done but I do have them – and I do have the four dream-lines for six months ahead. I already mentioned that the technique for creating dream-lines suggested by Tim F is to come up with five entries under each of the following: thing to have, to be and to do. The ‘to be’ category has to be taken a step further to include the actions that will have to be taken for this to happen. Following that one should calculate the cost (monthly) of achieving this dream. This adds reality because it helps with figuring out one’s Target Monthly Income and Target Daily Income.
The next step is to come up with three actions for each of the four priority dreams: actions to do immediately, to do tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
I did all this – that is how I know that learning to ride a motorbike will cost me about £800 (CBT is about £125 and a four day course is £569; my number allows for an additional day because I have achieved considerable self knowledge). It all starts looking much more real. Another action was that I started brainstorming titles for a blog – something I have wanted to do for a long time and have not started yet. Will keep you posted on all this.
Apart from that I read a bit, cooked spinach and rice (I don’t like spinach but this is truly delicious) and made a cake – which looked very strange but was eaten anyway.
And tomorrow is another week.

I'm not getting involved in a Mr/Mrs Firewalker 'debate' (:p), but as a geek it was just interesting to think about the definition of fluent.
A translator/interpreter once told me his ad hoc question to discern between different levels of language competency was to see if a person could describe how a car engine works in the language in which they thought themself 'fluent'. (Flawed in some ways, but brilliant in others.)
And as for what else you have been up to...I need a copy of that book!*Zips over to Amazon for a gander*

Pickle, see his blog first - it has the same name. He also recently published another book - The four hour body. Now this is something I'll try next. Leather needs a body to match.

Ha! She is better and she is here to play - keep writing dear. I have been trying Tim's tricks and as a result have a regiestered blog. In time will let people know but feeling slightly shy.
As to Catwoman - I have always said that when I am finsihed with the whole 'get yourself in shape' thing I'll look like Julia Roberts. And, yes, I can have my legs made longer (apparently it is painful but so worth it).:rotfl:
