Talk Talk Disguise Switch as Upgrade

Person knocks on my door - "Just calling to see if you've had your upgrade'...
Goes on to tell me that the exchange has been upagraded and broadband is now free. Yay!
Was I with BT for calls and broadband? Yes I am - on a 12 month contract - "oh it's ok, everyone's on a contract, it doesn't matter anymore"
Then the next sentence starts "Talk Talk have upgraded the exchange so that..."
Ahhhhh right - no thank you, I've just switched from AOL and you are all in the same boat. Went on to tell me they have different call centres.
No thank you, as you can see I'm up to my eyes right now with the kids. "Right then, well you'll just have to keep paying for your broadband"..."Yep, I will"
Honestly, it really annoys me the way they spin these things!

BT OpenReach does all the maintenance and upgrade work on exchanges, no-one else, so TalkTalk would have to book with them to get any work done, afaik.
Yeah, I hate these doorsteppers too - had one yesterday from Sky claiming that they had done a group installation in our street - really? Apparently just phone and broadband. Yeah, right.0 -
I hate door to door sales. It is such a desperate attempt to try and get customers. Some door to door folk don't even get an hourly wage... Just commision for what they sell.
They tend to have a sly way of selling to. The sorta person who whatever you say you need from a service, their service has exactly that... No matter how rediculous it sounds.0 -
I seem to recall that it must bring a lot of customers, which is why they do it (and why you even get charities doing it now)...but I bet if you did a survey you'd find most people hated it. It's annoying, embarassing and I bet a lot of people just say yes because it's easier than trying to convince them NO - I've done it with one pushy chap, then cancelled.
This chap was also unfortunately giving his sales talk while there was someone else visiting my house, who also worked in the industry and when he'd gone my visitor said he'd broken loads of rules. I cancelled, and then lo and behold he comes back months later...back on his list of 'leads' :mad:0 -
I found a great way to get rid of them was to answer the door while breast-feeding my baby...never seen a grown man look so flustered and almost sprint back down my driveway :rotfl:0

In unbundled exchanges, TalkTalk and other LLU operators maintain their own equipment. They have access to the exchanges in these instances. BT Openreach still have to maintain all the lines.
To the OP: IIRC TalkTalk were the company that complained to the regulator about other companies using this tactic, where you got switched and you didn't know it! Hypocritical?!!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0
