Avoid Halfords bikes and DHL at ALL COSTS!

I bought a bike from Halfords to find that there were parts missing. I took it to the local shop and the guy was absolutely useless. I phoned up customer services and they said they would arrange DHL to pick up the bike. I took a day off work because DHL were meant to come between 9am and 5pm. DHL didn't arrive. Phoned up Halfords again and they rearranged DHL to come again, took another day off work, DHL didn't arrive. Phoned up Halfords AGAIN and they said the problem lies with DHL. Phoned DHL why they didn't pick up the bike on 3 occasions. The first two times it had apparently been refused and the third time it had been "collected". The first and third time it was logged as refused and collected at 17.15 - outside their 9-5 slot they tell you.
Contacted my local DHL office where they tried lying to me! First they told me that it had been collected and when I turned around and said that it hadn't they said that the driver had to collect something from the same road as mine but signed the wrong manifest!! The woman I was talking to wouldn't let me finish my sentences and when she said so this has happened or that has happened it was totally wrong and clearly she hadn't listened to me. I asked to speak to the manager and she refused and after I said that as soon as I said something I could hear another woman in the background telling her what to say! They also told me that customer services were wrong and that they shouldn't have told me that it says the bike has been collected and that I should take it up with customer services.
Phoned customer services and they said it is the local depot's responsibility. Phoned up the local depot and spoke to a different person this time, and she lied to me saying that the delivery guy tried to collect the bike and left a card through the door. I told her she was wrong because I was in, my doorbell works, I was downstairs so I could hear someone knock on the door if the doorbell did fail and that there was no card in my letterbox.
DHL + Halfords = USELESS. Please use any other courier apart from DHL.

I agree, your contract is with Halfords. They state in their website that you can return goods instore.
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_14552_productId_584151_langId_-1_categoryId_173017#TANDC10
(section 10)
I would then send them a strongly worded letter detailing your problems and the time/expense these have cost you and invite them to issue suitable recompense for their failings.
