Problems with standard sky box

Options
Hi there sorry if this issue has been a problem before.
Lately I have been having problems with my over ten years old standard sky box.
Firstly the sky guide picture flashes on and off but sound stays on.
but normal tv is fine.
Presently normal tv flashes on and off after a while then goes fine for a while.
I have checked and replaced scart leads and also rebooted sky box but still keep having problems
I was contacted weeks ago coincidently by a person saying he was from sky and stated was I having sky box problems but did not believe him.
I have today contacted sky who have offered me service insurance on my package for £ 9 per month for 12 month period.
Has anybody had the same problems
Thank you

It's either the SCART sockets on the box or tv,try plugging a dvd into the sky scart on the tv,if it does it again,it's the tv,if not,its the box,
    It happened on my aunts.

Why would you consider taking insurance costing £108pa on a ten year old Sky box and dish?
You could buy a secondhand or recon box for a fraction of that. Standard Sky boxes (as opposed to Sky+ or HD) are given away on Freegle or sold for pence at car boot sales.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Agreed. The first generation of digiboxes, Amstrad DRX100/200, Pace 2200 etc are not worth keeping, as they are so slow.

If you are buying a second hand replacement avoid Grundig/Thomson, unless you are 100% certain the capacitors on the PSU have been changed.

I agree with both of them, with the Sky HD going so well, there are untold bog standard Sky boxes on the market for a few quid, even in car boot sales.

Even better,I've found you the newest make that Sky gave out,on E-Bay for £8 ish!

As for the insurance,it's a waste of time & money.
Consider this, you pay £108 a year, you can pick up boxes like that ablove for a tenner. If your dish goes wonky,a service call is £65...
My neighbour has been paying the insurance for years, must've paid them nearly £1000 over the years!!!
Would you rather pay £100 PLUS over the years or a one off payment of £65 or £8....

    No brainer for me!

I've had Sky longer than Sam & have only ever needed one service call when the Sky+ packed in & I've never had the insurance. It's,imho,a con.

Work out just how much you have paid over the years & what you've got in return. If the install is done right the first time, then you'll never need insurance.

    Hi There
Thank you all for all your comments which are noted, but getting a secondhand or refurbished sky box is not an option as they will not operate with the sky card, I have tried it on a borrowed one.
    Thanks again

They will, you just need to ring Sky and get your card paired with your newer receiver.

Sky don't care what box you use, as long as your card is valid and paired it will work.

You have to link the card with the box. All you do is call Sky, tell them you have changed the box and they pair the new box with your existing card.

Edit: Lol, the phone went as I was typing this. Sorry to repeat.
