Tesco Mobile - if i buy a TM phone can i use an o2 sim in it?

Hi everyone,

Have tried to do my homework and i know that Tesco Mobile uses O2's network.
I have seen a nice phone in Tesco and wondered if it will let me put my O2 simplicity sim card striaght in without any trouble?

Thank you in advance!

no , Tesco's phones are locked using a different network code, they just piggy back on o2's network

I bought a locked iPhone from Tesco, and my O2 sim worked in it straight away.

Although it's probably not strictly legit, you can get your phone 'unblocked' to allow the sim to work I think. I remember my mate doing this a while back. Many phone stalls in markets offer the service for a small charge I think.

The question has been raised here many times and as Browntoa says no you cant, unless you unlock it.

"Can I use another SIM in my Tesco phone?

If you wish to use another network's SIM, you will need to arrange for it be unlocked. If this is the case, you must not insert another operator's SIM card into the mobile without an unlatching code (which is not your PIN code). We will on request provide an unlatching code after 90 days starting from the date you activated your handset. If you activate your handset and use the Tesco Mobile network for less than 90 days before receiving an unlatching code, we will charge you a fee of £25 to unlock your handset.
If you wish to use Apple iPhone on another network we will only provide an unlatching code after 12 months or after the completion of any Pay monthly contract period.
If the phone has been active for more than 90 days there will be no charge as long as you have topped up by £25 since activation. If you haven't, you will need to top-up to reach this threshold before the code can be requested. The credit can then be used as airtime."

And as I said, I HAVE DONE IT, so it can be done...I am not sure if Browntoa has actually done it, but I have...I bought an iPhone from Tesco Mobile, put an O2 sim in it, and it worked...

    And to confirm:
