ORANGE Upgrade Advice required........

I've been an Orange customer for about 14 years and have upgraded my phone every 2 years (last time was 2004). Im on a ridiculous talkplan (TALK 60) and my bills are about £45 a month. (I know......I must be an idiot.)
Im therefore looking to upgrade my phone to a new Sony Ericsson, and also my talkplan so that I get more mins and texts included.
Anyway.....I phoned Orange and told the Retentions Dept that I wanted to leave. I was offered a free phone but a talkplan with less mins and texts than Orange offer to new customers. I tried to argue that Orange are meant to value existing customers and that I had been a loyal user for many years. They would not budge!!!
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get a better package (I would like to stay with Orange) or should I bight the bullet, port my number and get a FREE X Box etc. from one of the cashback deals that are around.
Any thoughts / ideas, would be very helpful.

Orange on thier website claim that if you are in the last 3 months of your contract you can join one of their new tariffs. What is the reason they are giving you saying you cant??0

They can only offer me the standard Dolphin, Racoon etc.. packages and not the specials that Orange advertise in the papers. For example todays Sun:-
Free Sony Ericsson K800i
UNLIMITED TEXTS
550 any network minutes
£35 a month
This, and packages like it are only available direct from Orange for New Customers. Thats what I was quoted anyway, and after a long arguement regarding 'existing customers should be treated the same as new customers'..........I gave up and put the phone down. They wouldn't budge apart from offering me the phone for free. Some days you're the bird......and some days you're the statue :cool:0 -
Thats just crazy. I would email a complaint to them, refer them to this web page
http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/offer/switch_to_a_plan?WT.mc_id=aug06089_ex_07
If you then click see tariffs, it offers you the above tariff!!!!
Why do telco's seem to be full of numb nuts these days. It seems that consumers know more about the offers than the staff that these companys employ.0 -
I have just recieved a SE k800i plus 650 anytime x-net minutes and 1100 texts for £30 per month.
This deal was easy to find on their website under web exclusive offers but appears not to be there now.
I got my deal 2 days ago, just badger them until they give in.S!!!!horpe0 -
I've just got an upgrade from Orange. Managed to go from £25 p/m 100 mins & 100txts to £25 p/m 500 mins & 250 texts. Had to pay £25 for a K800i, but the Orange person said it comes with a M2 memory card (which it doesn't).
After a moan, as a M2 card would cost me around £30, they agreed to refund the £25 I paid for the phone.
For once, I'm moderatly pleased with Orange.0 -
Well, I had a bit of a "Twilight Zone" moment there, I was just going to come on here and start athread exactly the same as CheekyMonkey!
I've been unhappy with Orange for some time now, they really don't seem to care about the customers they already have. I have been with them since they were Hutchison (or since they bought Hutchison, whatever!) , back in the Stone Age and they actually seem to me like they WANT me to leave. They are certainly not making any effort to keep my business, and I'm not pushing for loadsa toys or gimmicks, just like the OP, a bit of a fairer deal.
However, today, I am on a mission, we WILL have some sort of a result, or I'm packing up and going, (and then I'll be writing to their boss to tell him why!)0 -
Orange wouldn't offer me the K800i for less than £50 so I went to O2.
Better reception with them than I got with Orange, exact same tarrif for same cost and free phone, 12 month contractIt's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0
