Mine was a nice cardboard one with cut out slots. A vast improvement on the free paper one they are putting through the door.

I agree. I thought one of my lines was Ok as it fitted through my plastic gauge but the pO lady says no as it needs to be helped through and doesn't fall through easily. Soo

That is a load of poopsie. If it goes through the hole AT ALL then it is the right size. The guide does not say letters have to be smaller than 25mm thickness - it says maximum 25mm thickness - therefore if it goes through then it's acceptable. Even if pushed.
I have a feeling the post-offices will be of differing opinions on this matter...
I feel like getting this from them in writing...

In one of the guides somewhere it says specifically that an item can be pushed into the slot but must fall through without assistance once half has gone through. My jiffy bags catch and my silver tamper proof bags need the air squashed out to go through so neither will qualify.

Darned if I can find where it says that though, but I know I read it and the PO lady's guide says that as well.

Just a warning: aparently, people have been finding that things fit through the cardboard free guides fine, but do not fit through the plastic ones the post offices use. I've read this on the powerseller board, and a few people have commented on it

yeah i noticed this while at the post office the other day ... i had one of the cardboard guides months ago and thought that my items would be fine going through that larger slot, but while at PO it seems that slot is smaller or perhapes i was just forcing it through the cardboard in hope....lol presenting a serious dilema, less bubble? or no longer recorded....hmmm lol

Just wacked loads of items on Ebay excess stock, which will end up costing a fortune to post and are only cheap things. Will get much less for them but I know I wouldn't pay huge postage on little items that are under £2/£3.

We've been getting the guides through the post up here last few days, think they are mean't to be doing that nationally. Also had some in my local PO.

I always package before listing and just write on what they are, find it much easier than dashing about when they have been paid for.
One day I might be more organised...........
