ASDA online - is it just me??

Or is it the most complicated service ever, staffed by incompetents? I placed my order yesterday, with a £10 off e voucher, came to £44. This morning, they've "pre-authorised" the full amount from my bank, £54, which sent me "pre-overdrawn". Also menat the few extra quid i'd left there to pay for an ebay item couldn't be used, but ho hum, it can wait. Rang to have it explained to me that it's in the t and c that the full amount will be pre-authorised (WHY??? and i can't find it in the t and c) and that the correct amount (she couldn't be sure how much!) would come out of my bank tomorrow. So they're holding an extra tenner of my money overnight, and i don't know until tomorrow how much they WILL charge me.
Shopping arrived, 6 items unavailable - beer, beans, those unusual items they always run out of (not!). This sent my total to below the £35 required for the e voucher discount. Rang again - they STILL can't tell me how much will be charged, but are still holing my £54 overnight. grrrrrr! and now i have to go out anyway to buy beer and beans!!!

welcome to the wonderful world of asda home shopping. In my case they didnt just pre authorise the amount, they took payment out of my account and requested a second pre authorised amount then told me it could take up to 6 months before the funds would be un-pre authorised! (it didn't because I kicked up a big fuss)
Needless to say I won't be using asda home delivery service again.0 -
I can't even get onto the ASDA online shopping section to compare prices because they don't deliver to my area. Sounds like that's blessing really. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

lol..for us they let me register, do the shop (took forever!) ..took payment , then called me the day after to say actually, they don't yet deliver to our area! argh! this was a year ago so I would have hoped things hav e improved by now..but seems not!Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0

I find ASDA's website so hard to use I don't bother, even though some items are slightly cheaper than Tesco, the shopping list on the side of the screen is so difficult to use/understand compared with Tesco. Glad I didn't bother. They keep sending me £10 off codes but I'm ignoring them.0

I knew I shouldn't have done it - they did the taking payment twice trick on me around 6 months ago, but I was too tempted by the £10 off e voucher. Never again! They've now confirmed that they will actually be taking £27, but are still keeping a hold on the full £54 until they do take that payment "sometime tomorrow".
Well, that's a customer they've lost. I wont even shop in the store now on principle. Idiots.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
well counterintuitively instore asda staff are the friendliest and most helpful I have come across..one time we were £2 ish over at the checkout with the cash we had and they refused us leaving items and just accepted the money we had..Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0

The preauthorisation is annoying, but besides that we've found Asda online to be excellent. The site gets much easier to use when you have a few historical shopping lists, the store which provides the service to us is very good, the drivers are always helpful and courteous and on the few occasions something we've ordered has been out of stock, they've provided appropriate and normally better (more expensive) alternatives on a price-match basis. We stopped using Tesco a while back because the service was so awful so we are pleasantly surprised to find Asda to be so good. I suppose it comes down to the luck of which local store provides the service. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

fifer Ita with you about the quality of the service, I've had a few asda deliveries and the problem about the pre-authorisation only ever happens when I use my debit card to pay, couple of times I used my credit card (naughty I know) and it wasn't an issue.
I am on such a tight budget that the preauthorising issue makes my finances a total nightmare. I have a small overdraft of £100 which I try not to use, but occasionally I do have to dip into it, I can't do that if asda keeps charging me twice (all be it only via pre authorisation) for my shopping so I've had to stop using them.0 -
You're right Fifer - the store itself is deadful too. Empty shelves all over the place; I don't suppose I should have expected any different. The delivery lad was lovely though. No complaints there.
Looby - that's my point exactly. I'm on a budget and all this faffing around makes it really awkward for me. If they charge me twice on top of all this I'm going to go mental!!******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
