A&L Bank charge but not sure why?

Options
Hi all,

I moved £200 over from another account into A&L yesterday to pay my rent, ive checked the bank this morning and im confused to see a £25 bank charge, my account is in credit & the charge has been taken out before my rent?!

So it reads

01/04/2010 - Payment in £200
01/04/2010 - Charge out - £25
01/04/2010 - Rent out - £495

Im a little confused as to why its there? according to the statements on the account ive never been overdrawn & according to their terms & conditions they give you 14days notice of any charges anyway...

Typically, they are shut now untill tuesday

I just want to check im not going completley bonkers! My account is still in credit after the rent has been taken out also so i'm not sure what has happened.

I think they take all the debits out before the credits, if that makes sense? They did it to our account once, so even though DH got paid that day, they put the debit down first so we went overdrawn, then put his salary on. Probably mentioned in their T's & C's, but it's still not nice when it happens!

A+L require cleared funds at the start of the day.
You needed enough funds in your account to cover your rent payment at the start of the day (effectively the end of the previous day).

Post #16 in that thread summarises the facts well.

You have been charged a payment review fee of £25 which according to their T+Cs is debited immediately from your account.

11.7 We will take the money from Your Account to pay the fees that You owe Us. For
Overdraft Usage and Exceeding Overdraft Limit Fees, We will give You at least 14
days notice of what You must pay before We take these fees (14 days start from the
date the notification is posted). For Payment Review Fees, We will deduct these from
Your Account immediately and a letter will be sent to You in the post advising You of
the fee. For Northern Ireland customers only – We will tell You by statement at least

14 days before deducting these fees from Your Account (14 days start from the date

    the notification is posted).

Thanks Noh, What a pain in the backside...

Its a little misleading to log onto the account and see nothing wrong with it and a charge anyway!

It's worth calling them and requesting a refund which they may do if you haven't had any charges on the previous year.
