peas and courgette seeds not growing

Hi

I bought some pea and courgette seeds this year. I planted a couple of pea seeds about 6 weeks ago and they are about 6 inches high.
2 weeks ago i planted a couple more pea seeds (indoors in small pots) and some courgette seeds, nothing seems to be happening so i had a dig in the soil.

Th courgette seeds are there showing no sign of germinating and the pea seeds i can't seem to find!!

Any ideas what i have done wrong, the first few peas seemed to work fine.

Thanks

I think you just started too early, IMHO. Courgettes need to be sown at the end of April. And be patient! Eventually things should appear.
I was just reading yesterday that if possible, you should soak your courgette seeds ( and squash etc) and then plant on their sides to stop them rotting.
I planted mine direct into the soil about May last year and they did very well.

    Pea seeds could have rotted

I sowed some in multi pots a few weeks back, indoors, most have come up, but no sign of the rest, just rotted away

Luckily peas re fairly easy, sowing ore is not a big problem & will, by default, give a longer cropping period, even if unintentionally

    thanks for all your help

i don't think bird or mice got them as they are indoors :-)

I think the peas might have rotted, i turned out some of the soil and it was socking wet, it is seed compost with sand for better drainage but it just seems to absorb the water

i have planted some more and will try not to over water

When I plant my pea seeds in yoghurt pots I always put two in then put them on the window sill and you should get at least one sprouting.

Don't water seeds in pots at all ....

Soak the compost before you sow the seeds - then do not water again until they have germinated .... most seeds just need warmth, and damp (not wet) compost to spring into life.... otherwise they will just rot (especially the larger pea/bean type seeds)..

I think it's a bit the luck of the draw as well. None of my courgette seeds grew last year (I have no idea why) - just started some of indoors again, did exactly the same thing, and 3 out of the 6 are now doing a jack and the beanstalk.
I have used the capillary matting under the seed trays this year which seems to have stopped my usual drought/flood style of plant care. I found a nursery which sells it by the metre, and am now completely sold on the stuff.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

One for the mouse, one for the crow.
One to rot and one to grow.

I have my pea seeds in an unheated greenhouse. No germination yet, but we'll see :)
