I want to buy a house. Hardly any available

It is so frustrating. I want to move and luckily have cash to buy a house before I sell mine but there are hardly any for sale. Why are people not putting their houses up for sale? I don`t want a new house built by a mass builder

Come on people get your houses up for sale. I cannot be the only frustrated buyer

  • Just withdrew from a sale due to changing personal circumstances. We are removing our home from the market for the long term future. Aside our personal circumstances changing it was going to cost us a lot to move due to the amount of negative equity - which I suspect a lot of people will have if they have borrowed against the equity in their home over the last 5 years.

If nobody puts their house for sale until they've found a house ... and if there are no houses for sale ... it's Catch 22.

I have been trying to buy since last September.

Nothing about and therefore anything that is desirable is going for boom prices within a couple of weeks of it going on the market.

On the other hand my property has been on the market for 6 months with no proceedable buyers in sight. The price is very reasonable, its not overvalued and I would accept a lower offer anyway.
Its a bungalow in excellent condition, new kitchen, new bathroom, new boiler, decorated throughout tastefully, new upvc windows, detached, very private plot with garage and driveway - nothing needs doing.
So I've got fed up and taken it off the market - it certainly is a strange market at the moment - seems developers are the ones buying up.
Buyers dont seem to be thick on the ground - so if they hold back noone can get moving.

    Quatro,

Just wondering what part of the country you're in as that feels like an very unusual situation for the south east. What is certainly happening in the surrey area is that well priced houses attract bidding wars and then always go for over the asking.

I've also wondered what is causing the lack of supply which is no doubt a catch22 situation. We attempted to buy a house but the sellers couldn't find a house so after several months we had to pull out as there was no end in sight. The probate homes literally have queues forming around the house to view and go for 15% over asking.

Bizarre times in the housing market

I'm in the south west. I've seen properties here come and go, some in bad condition/poor location are snapped up, beautiful ones [not overpriced in my opinion] have stuck for months on end.....one of which I would like to buy myself but cant.

It is very strange. I'm on a main road [not unduly busy, just bussling local high street and quiet after 6]- no problem in a sellers market but seems to be an issue for some now.

People have been interested but they also remain unable to proceed. My patience has now run out!

I'm in a no-chain position and pending some work on the house will be putting mine up for sale. I've decided to rent to avoid an extensive chain. Just hope I get a FTB who can proceed quickly.
