Carphone Warehouse Deal
Options
Hello,
I was planning to buy a LCD TV and came across this deal from Carphone Warehouse.
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/buy/SAMSUNG-C3050-DO25T-TVSAM
The TV cost around £300 and the phone around £35 with a £20/£40 cashback (not sure) with TCB.
Is this a good deal?
Please help me decide.
Thanks in advance,
AA

The premise is the same for all 'Free' gifts with phone contracts. You are basically being given the opportunity to pay the cost of the item monthly.
I haven't looked, but I'm guessing the tv could be bought for less than £300 outright.0 -
The cheapest you'll get this tv is £297. It's a good deal. The TV itself is really good. How do I know? I went for this deal and my tv turned up Tuesday. It's £40 cashback on TCB. It's a 24 month £25 per month contract on various networks with various free phones. Choose which ones suits you best. I went for the Orange deal. You should be able to change down to the next tariff after 12 months, reducing the cost to £20 a month. Total cost is £500 over the 2 years (taking into consideration changing down and the cashback). In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

You can get the TV for £280 at Richer Sounds:

The phone Samsung C3050 can be had for £35 from Tesco:
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-2761.aspx
You can get a SIM only contract for £10/month for 12 months with 300 mins and UL texts, total £120.
Total for all the above: £435
This doesn't include any cashback, you might get from any of the above.
Any 'free gift' deals are paid by providing a cheap phone on a relatively expensive contract. There may be a tiny number of real bargains for gifts they are trying to shift, but most work out more expensive than buying seperately.0 -

Your right, but the deal is a two year deal not one. Still works out cheaper to buy seperate.
Putting it on the same length, as seperates TV £280, Phone £35, two years contract £240 = £555 over the two years (and as you say without any cashback from the buying of the TV or phone
The Ops' deal Phone and Tv "free" and two years contract £600 *IF* you get the £40 cashback your still paying £5 more.0 -
its cheaper than buying a TV from Brighthouse or Payasyouview though...0

Yes, true, the illustration for 12 months minimum leaves you free to get a new contract or continue with the SIM only after this time. With the OP deal, you're tied in for 24 months.
The part about reducing the tariff doesn't always work either. Downgrade eligibility and tariffs can both change. So there's no guarantee you can get down to the next price point with sufficient inclusive texts/minutes after any given period anyway.0
