Slow Ebayer Sellers...

Is it unreasonable to expect an item bought on ebay with first class delivery for example to be posted the next working day at the latest by first class delivery, unless it is stated in the listing that the seller cant get to the post office until a stated day?
Just wondering what the thoughts are on this as it seems pointless saying 1st class when its gonna take a week!
Do people think that if people are unable to post quickly it should say in the listing?
So if you buy something Monday with first class you should expect to receive it by Wednesday (Royal Mail permitting)?

I would say yes, it is unreasonable to expect that, unless a seller specifically states that items are normally posted next working day. I tend to expect things to take about a week, and be pleasantly surprised if they arrive within a day or two.littleange_com wrote:Is it unreasonable to expect an item bought on ebay with first class delivery for example to be posted the next working day at the latest by first class delivery, unless it is stated in the listing that the seller cant get to the post office until a stated day?
Nowadays, eBay include an optional "domestic handling time" box in the postage and payment details, which is useful. If fast delivery is important to you, look for sellers who specify 1-day handling times. This info is for the time frame within which items are usually sent - it's not a guarantee.0 -
Yes I would say it was unreasonable to expect items to be sent next working day unless the auction specfically guaranteed that they do ship same/next day.
Sellers have a week to get the item to the buyer as a buyer can't even start an item not received claim until a week has elapsed. I can get to the PO most days, but still don't guarantee same or next day just in case I have to work all day and can't get to the PO on occasions.
Also, 1st class doesn't mean next day delivery so even if somehting was sent on a Tuesday it might not arrive until the Thursday or Friday anyway, and the seller can't help that.
The price paid for postage means nothing other than the service used. If I see an auction with special delivery (next day service) I would just assume it would arrive the day after it was sent, not the day after I paid. 1st means it will be put in the post with 1st class postage, and 2nd class the same but with 2nd clsss postage.

I agree it is unreasonable. Not everyone can get to the post office on a daily basis.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

i always try to manage my listings so they finish on a sunday, knowing i can always get to the PO on a monday. I find it surprising that some people leave it a week to post items, especially when they wouldnt be happy if you left it a week to pay ! however others sell vast amounts of items and its just not practical to make continual trips to the PO or have to pack and label several items all in one go.
if it bothers you ask them the question in advance, if they reply they dont know when it will be posted should you win, then avoid them. If you ask polietly its not an unreasonable request.

I agree. I think it's important to remember that a lot of people selling on ebay are not doing it as a business venture.
It does annoy me when sellers make a big deal of the fact that they use 1st Class post because as others point out, it matters not a jot if they don't post until five days after you have paid.
Personally I give no guarentees. If my trip to the PO is going to be delayed I normally slip the Buyer an email. I try to post next day if the buyer has paid promptly; if not, I don't see the urgency....maybe that's harsh but I always post withing a few days of receiving payment.0 -
I use this as a sales tool and will state in large letters:- POSTED WITHIN 24 HOURS". Keeps customers happy, feedback good and is what I would expect as a buyer.
The added bonus of course is if you keep in touch and give buyers a great buying experience; then when and if they have a problem they are much less likely to hit that negative button and are more likely to give you a chance to sort things out.
I am sure there are a tiny minority of people who can't get to PO regularly and I would just have a note somewhere on my listing pointing this fact out.
As my granny used to say: " Do as you would be done by"
Top Sales Tip:- Post promptly which will be reflected in your feedback which will result in greater sales and higher prices!!0 -
I'm only small-time and I work within 5 minutes walk of a post office, and I feel guilty if I don't post out next day

I do state a 1 day despatch time on listings though, and I think my prompt despatch is appreciated by those who buy from me.
It's annoying when you buy and other sellers don't have the same urgency about posting... but everyone has different circumstances, and the despatch time stated on the auction should be noted at time of bidding. My TV is broken!

I always try and post my items within 24 hours - the items normally finish at night, so if the payment is received that night or within the night/morning I will post it the next day. If there are any problems in me getting to the post office as I cant always manage it due to illness I keep the buyer updated and apologise for any delay - never had a problem this way yet.Weight Loss - 102lb0

i always state in my listings that I will despatch within 3 working days of funds clearing.0

I would love to post on the same/next day every time - but it isnt always possible. My local post office is a 5 mile drive away and for a item that hs sold forr 99p and postage is a £1 or so i wont go out especially - i would loose money by the diesel i use! This PO is usually closed anyway so would have to make the 30mile round trip to a post office! During the summer holidays i dont need to go out every day so items to tend to wait a day or two - never had any complaints!0
