I say, if they are powered electrically then what's the problem
The problem is that the fuel has nothing to do with it. Not all electric vehicles are milk floats - you can make ones that go as fast as "proper" petrol mini-motos, which can kill just as easily as mini-motos. Similarly, if you put a small model aeroplane internal combustion engine inside, you will not go very fast. Power source is irrelevant; "performance" is the key. Hence the power figure I mentioned above.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

But I would ban that immediately on account of it being French...
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!

Just been for a drink with a client tonight - we got onto the topic of Mini-Moto's and how the importing and sale of them should be subject to proof of vehicle regustration and road taxation (similar to when a new car is registed, you have to prove you have insurance to purchase the road tax)

.... he then went on to tell me about his friend, who was plagued by his neighbour who had bought his 2 children a petrol and battrey powered one of these things respectivly, the kids apparently were the skurge of the neighbourhood on these things .... but one day back in May, the younger kid (around 5, i think) was on the battery powered moto and was speeding along the pavement, and skidded and hit one of the neighbours cars as he was parking it on the road (neither the child or car suffered any serious damage, but the moto was in-bits) .... The parent of the kid apparently appeared, and started "f'ing" and "blinding" at the car driver, surprisingly considering they were not a fault - moments later a gathering of long suffering neighbours appeared to spectate, (and much to my ammusement when hearing the story), the rest of the neighbours joined, sideing with the car driver. They set upon the boys father telling him he was irrisponsible to buy such dangerous things (the moto's), and worse still (understandably), questioning his parenting abilities the lack of control he had over their kids ....

Apparently a short while later, while all this is "kicking off", the police attended and took a similar line against the parent, and told them on this occasion they would'nt be charged, but if any further compaints were made they would be investigated ....

I found this particlary apt to tell this story - after reading this thread .... I personally think the things should be crushed before people even buy them ..... but if you feel so tempted to purchase one of these "neighbour annoying - little death traps for your children", consider the situation you might find yourself in .... ;)

It's the slippery slope to boy racers!!!!

Actually, Iv'e met the parents of a mini moto victim and I wouldn't let my kids anywhere near one. Having said that I agree with rdwarr about horse riding and the dangers of other activities. Parental supervision and education is a must.

Yes, you can ban them on the grounds of safety but where do you stop? Far more children are killed in horse riding accidents.

I think we should ban all children.

Too many kids are being born, and are a drain on the NHS with all their accidents

Whereas electric scooters for the disabled are classed as invalid carriages and so long as the driver is over 14 are legal to use, subject to not exceeding 4mph on the pavement. (Yeah right!).

Does this mean then they shouldnt be on the road?,there is a bloke near us who always rides in the middle of the road on one and causes lots of traffic problems and is a total pain in the !!!!!!

You can get souped up ones that go up to six miles per hour that are allowed on the road, these are the type usually used to mow able bodied pedestrians down in shopping centres and supermarkets, I believe the disabled have a secret sort of Grand Theft Auto thingy going on amongst themselves myself.
