Of course it's the OP's problem. His insurers can't do anything about it without his assistance. And the insurers will not just contact the police. They may, if they find this case is linked to others. But otherwise, what's the point?
My point was there is no point the OP worrying about and trying to chase up police etc, he should just leave it to his insurers to investigate, if they chose to do so.

You should insist to your insurers that they deal with it as a potential fraud claim. Most of them have fraud departments and take it very seriously.

On my way to work this morning I was involved in a collision with another car.....

The guy basically went to pull out onto an empty traffic island and then stopped dead. When I saw him move onto the island (ie crossed the white lines) I glanced right, saw nothing coming, came off the brakes, but then turned around only to find he'd stopped on the island and I went straight into the back of him. A very light collision, no damage to either car only cracked my number plate.
(I'd followed him through town and should have suspected something when he was braking for green lights!!)

He gets out with one hand cupped round his neck, he's limping and holding a slip of paper with his details pre-written.

He noted that there was no damage to the cars but said he wanted to exchange details "just incase"........ He then proceeded to tell me this exact same thing had happened just a few months ago!!
Normally people are quite shaken after a collision, but this guy (looked half European) was totally calm like he expected it to happen. The way he behaved just seemed very odd!

I strongly suspect he's a claim chaser so I am not amused! for all I know he could have done this entirely deliberately just to go chasing a personal injury claim!! Nobody stops ON an empty f**kin traffic island for no reason at all!
He probably spend his last payout on Christmas presents and has now run out again.....

Also, looking at his address.... his direction of travel and the road he was on, do not make any sense whatsoever, there was no reason to be where he was at nearly 8am (heading out of the town centre) when he lives 30 miles away.
Recreational driving is not something people do at 8am on a Thursday morning.

I've been to the Police and they were not interested, told me its an insurance matter, I then called my insurance and they don't seem to care about whether its a scam or not.

If it's truly an accident then i'll put my hands up and say "yea ok, I hit the back of his car", but I will not be taken for a fool by some scam artist!

    Any similar experiences?

Whilst if your account of this, and suspicions, are true, you should pursue this issue with your insurers.

However you have fallen perfectly into his trap by not being carefull enough.
It's one off the commonest accidents in the book, car in front gone, look to right, drive off, OOOOOps:eek:

You could have told him you were not insured if you were that certain of his motives;):T

Also the fact that he looked "1/2 european", might just be construed wrongly, or even correctly by some, I don't know how you meant it. You probably look 100% European

    Note to self;
Carry a pre written note stating "I am un unisured driver", :D:D
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Yeah watched that on TV, started to get paranoid.... Traced down the guys address and went up there to covertly take photo's of his car so that he can't claim excessive damages and hire car expense etc etc, no damage to his car at all..... Not even a scratch.
I've also called my insurers and told them everything, I made it very clear that their were no passengers.....

As for the comment up above somewhere, you'll notice that yes I should have been more observant, but he also should not have stopped once he'd cross the line onto the empty island.
If I did what he did, I reckon I could make 90% or more of UK drivers hit my car.

To another comment above, he looked like he was half Greek perhaps Asian, hard to tell as in all honesty I got the impression from his appearance that he was unemployed. He spoke English fluently, but his name is definitely foreign.

    New question!!

If he's already claimed compensation from the previous accident he had, can he claim again so soon? and how can he prove that it was this accident that caused his "whiplash" injury when he's already had the same less than a few months ago?

Yeah, you might want to use that in your defence, "he looked foriegn and unemployed", so I drove into the back of him.

!!!!!!, he may have stitched you up, but you were compliant in this.;)

There were so many of these a few years ago in my area that they put up our insurance -'realigning the post codes'.
Probably still paying for the scammers today.

I hit a woman driving her mother's motability car a glancing blow at less than walking pace (I was in the wrong) and she still managed to get a claim through for £1.9k (under the £2k that the insurer would investigate)............
