Gah annoying letting agent strikes again

I got a call from our letting agent on monday afternoon saying our landlady had someone to view our place on friday morning 9.30 - 10 was that convenient for us.

I say yes as well be in as its a bank holiday.

This morning my car had alternator trouble so I was speaking to the RAC man outside our house at 8am when the letting agent turns up (different one to the one I spoke to on monday)

He has a viewing at 8.15

Er what viewing, the only one I knew about was for tomorrow at 9.30

Apparently he wasnt in the office yesterday but he asked on tuesday someone to phone us yesterday to inform us (nice amount of notice there)

Now my husband and I normally leave the house before 7 so if I hadnt been sorting my car out we would never have known about this viewing this morning, the agent said as soon as he got back to the office he would check whether the viewing tomorrow was still happening but as of 12 I hadnt heard from him, my husband rang them at 12.15 and they werent aware of tomorrows viewing (its a chain of agents and letting head office is in Romford - they rang me monday and the office that came out this morning was Chelmsford branch)

Apparently my husband kicked off merry hell style at them but we are still none the wiser about tomorrow

I will be so glad when we are out of this house and never have to deal with them again - they are a complete shower of slimy imbeciles

You still have "exclusive occupancy" and don't have to permit access for viewings at all. If you felt generous and wanted to compromise you can simply offer them a couple of set slots to suit you.

Write to the LA (copy to both branches) stating this and that you do not consent to them showing potential viewers round in your absence. Tell them that any future viewings will only take place after you have agreed them in writing. Other possibilities are that you change the lock barrel , keeping the original to replace when you go and/or set up a webcam or portable alarm

Apologies to those who have read this from me before:

Write and say "We will be happy to facilitate viewings that have been pre-arranged, at times which are mutually convenient, but under no circumstances should viewings be made in our absence, even if pre-agreed. For example if we are unavoidably detained and miss the viewing time, the agent may NOT use their keys to access the property in our absence.

Any such access would be considered a breach of our right to quiet enjoyment, and further viewings would then be completely denied.

Please confirm your receipt of this letter by return of post"
