I've heard that you can use your mobile to connect to the internet using the WIFI, is this correct and if so how does it work?

It's true. Many modern Smartphones have the ability to connect to a local WiFi signal. You just need to check your phone's spec to see if yours is one of them.
Basically it connects just the same way a laptop or PC would connect. You then get the same speed as you get on your home computer when inside your house.0 -
Sorry I missed out on my post what I was actually talking about lol. I meant connect my laptop to the internet using my phone as a modem.0

Ah, I see
Yes, I believe you can use your mobile to connect to the internet but I would ask why you would do that if you are within range of a WiFi signal anyway? Do you actually want to use your phone as a WiFi dongle??? Most laptops have that capability built in.
Perhaps you mean connecting to the internet using your mobile phone internet (3G) signal? I'm pretty sure you can do this but I've never tried. When I plug my phone into my computer it comes up with a list of options, possibly one of those is to share the internet connection.0
