CPW IPhone Exchange
Hi,
Wonder if anyone could offer me some advice, In June last year (2009) I took out a 18 month IPhone contract with CPW (O2 Network).
Since that time the phones had to have been replaced three time due to various hardware faults (Screen artifacts, Faulty GPS chip, Faulty WiFi chip), being that the phones warrenty runs out in three months (costing me £200 if it develops a fault after) i've contacted Carphone Warehouse and commented on the phones unreliability and disruption its already caused.
I asked if the handset could be exchanged for a different Make/Model but got a overwhelming 'No', they seem to think this handset is the second coming and refuse to acknowledge any responsability; they even went as far as hinting that because Apple actually replaced the phone there repair history slate was clean.
All i'm after is a reliable phone which doesn't burn its self out every three months through normal usage, do I have any legal foot to stand on? Or am I destined to payout for repairs outside the warrenty period?
Cheers for the help/advice

Any repair conducted through cpw has a 90 day warranty, so if the phone has a failed repair and the handset is out of warranty, it's still covered.Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug).0

Have you actually had your phone repaired? Usually Apple do swap outs rather than repairs, do technically you've probably had three faulty phones not one.
Legally speaking the warranty was 12 months, if you wanted extra you needed to buy AppleCare. Your only chance is a goodwill replacment but it sounds like they are not budging.
Try writing to CPW and put a complaing in, written letters are not as easily lost, as they get tracked and you may get a batter response than front line customer suypport.0 -
I have had issues with the CPW in the past, you can write, preform a jig but once there mind is made up they wont budgeThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

maybe look at getting the 2nd yr warranty (£59??) ask CPW for contributionAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

Two options...Applecare (via eBay) not Apple, as it is much cheaper.
Second, never deal with the morons in CPW, go direct to an Apple Store, and deal with the Genius's there, a CPW employee wouldn't get to clean at an Apple Store.0 -
Technically its been repaired once, swapped out twice.
My only problem with buying an extended warrenty is that a £300 odd device (when new) shouldn't have a 3 month lifespan. Why should I have to pay out to keep whats simply badly designed hardware operational?
Its not like the handsets being misused, every one they've swapped out hasn't had a scratch on it.
I've read about cases where people have 'rejected' items for consistantly failing and taken the supplying company to court, because i've had the phone for so long i'd have to prove that its unfit for purpose but surely the three repair statements from Apple would cover that?0 -
If you have had a new replacement handset then the timeclock on your warranty should start again, have you tried registering the IMEI number of the new handset on the Apple website with the date it was supplied to you? Then if there are further faults within warranty you can simply go into an Apple store or contact Apple. If the most recent handset doesn't actually have a fault at present I think you will have an uphill battle in court.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
