I don't think you understand - there is no danger to you as a Buyer in doing this (it's something I do quite often as a Buyer - I get to check the condition of the item before handing over my money).

The danger is to the Seller if they allow Collection In Person and accept payment by PayPal.

    I understand.
I like cash, sellers like cash, I'm honest, I expect sellers to be truthful, but I like to turn up, shake hands, I must admit I like to see the goods first, make sure they are as described, hand over the money, and walk away.
No snad, no not received, no chargeback, no postage, no paypal fees.
I can't see any reason to want to pay by paypal, but equally I won't bid on any auction where the seller wants a "deposit by paypal within 24 hours". I trust most people, and I've not been dissapointed yet.

It isn't the honest people like you though that we need to be afraid of.

Thieves will always go for a soft target so anyone who looks new or naive will be targetted for this scam. As we cannot protect ourselves against it I no longer sell anything on ebay that cannot be posted or couriered at a push unless I am happy to lose the goods.

As a police officer I would have thought you would have realised that you live in 2 different places, Abbots Langley, Herefordshire & Abbots Langley Hertfordshire. Also did you contact the other seller of an xbox bought by the same buyer as yours the day you were ripped off? item number is 190385115775 to warn him or as someone to back up your claim with his own?
  • Haha well spotted! Maybe they have dropped the standards to get into the police force now!

Funny how the OP has not replied to this thread, maybe he realises he looks a silly twit and that we can see through his lies!

Am I missing something or will the seller not have the buyers address anyway? (included in the Paypal payment email)

    I'd pay them a return visit ..

You saved £15, and it cost you nearly £200. Maybe you'll read about Paypal's buyer protection before taking it to court (good luck with that, by the way. Civil matter, not legal one).
    Lesson learned, I'd say.

Civil matters go to court aswell Dave! and as this transaction involves fraud and theft it could go to Crown Court too

I agree, it's a shame that there are at least two sellers on here that won't do collection.
I buy a few big, or heavy, items, and it's too costly for me to pay postage, and it's always easier to collect in the evenings, or weekends than wait for a courier.
There are mainly honest buyers, equally honest sellers, but a few bad ones that put all the others off.
