Are you in the Support group for ESA?

Do you claim DLA? I am guessing that is what you mean by DWP.

Do you have a partner that works? You may be entitled to help with housing on costs (payments towards your mortgage interest or rent, and Council Tax Benefit), but these will depend on your household income, and whether you have capital above £16,000 (with anything above £6,000 lowering your entitlement).
    Gone ... or have I?

In our area there are special financial advisors employed by Macmillan to help.

Because you have cancer, you're entitled to free prescriptions. Your GP has the fomr that needs to be filled in.

Do you receive tax credits for the children, if so, when the new award comes through, based on last years income, you should advise them of the new income relevant for this year.
Have a look at entitledto.co.uk, a quick estimate with your current benefits and your wifes salary shows £177 per week child plus working tax credits - I took a guess that your wife works more than 16 hours and your have 2 children just to get a rough number

Do you have life cover for the mortgage?

If so, then it may now pay out, depending on its terms and conditions.

Check it and if it does, then claim on it!

    Hello

Your wife should also get an enhancement on your WTC claim, it is worth about £1075 per year. It is called the Severe disability element.

I know because I got it when my husband was in your situation.

If your wife's income was £95.00 after deductions, then she could qualify for carer's allowance (£53.10pw in 2009/10). You can deduct pension contributions etc. from pay to get to the £95.00 per week. It may be worth looking at.

Have a look at pensions that you have as well, they may have clauses that will help you in your situation.

I assume that you are younger than 50, otherwise it may have been worth considering one of the over 50 life insurances. Sorry if that is a bit morbid, trying to help though.

    All the best

I am sorry to hear about your condition.

However from a financial point of view you appear to be claiming all you are entitled to.

Perhaps its time to use the 16K now to enjoy life rather than wait for something to happen.
