    short answer: no

long answer: this isn't very good - the ram isn't enough. 256 is far too little - 512minimum really..
Processor - is also cheap and poor quality
battery life - 2 hours is pretty rubbish.
no built in wireless - also quite useful to have and is missing..

overall - don't go for it.

The Tesco one is better value

    £300, Celeron M, Wifi, DVD-Writer, 40Gb HD, 15.1" Widescreen

Only 256Mb RAM but it's only £25 for another 256Mb from Crucial

    VIA C7-M754 1.5GHz

    re-read that as

'performance approaching that of a PIII 600 Mhz with a headwind'

those processors are BAD, real BAD

A little melodramatic but the point is accurate. VIA Processors are aimed well and truly at the low performance ultra-low budget market. With performance to match.

Personally, i'd go for a dell - there is usually one around the £349 mark or maybe less - thursdays are the day for dell deals. i would upgrade the basic warranty of three months on site, to one years on site. if something goes wrong, they will come to her place of residence to sort it, rather than her have to find her local tescos or woolies and have it sent off for repair etc which could take ages.

Also, keep an eye on https://www.dell.co.uk/outlet. they do a 'drop' regularly - you may be able to pick up a laptop there for £300 or less, but the big advantage is that all those 'outlet' machines have a years warranty in the price.

At Hexus somebody posted that it's on to the end of September. They had them in the Back To School section which they were just setting up today at the Kingston Park Tesco Extra (Newcastle)
