Hi Omar. Have you had any news on this yet, with regards to the new interest rates and if the premier direct AND regular saver can still be taken out together? If not, i think my best bet would be to open before September. A real shame if they only allow one or the other from Sept.
  • I think the sums work out like this.

    (The three Options
    1. Before September a current account at 5% + a regular saver of max £250 a month at 10% AER not available after September but continuing after September.
    2. After September a current account paying 1.5% and a regular saver of max £250 paying 12% AER- current account compulsory.
    3. After September a current account paying 6.1% but no option to take out a regular saver.)

    Investing say £5000 or £10000

    Option 1 Gross Interest = £328.70 or £578.00

Option 2 (Assuming £500 at 1.5% Gross and feed the 12% account from an external account that is earning 5.1% Gross) Total Gross Interest =
    £345.60 or £599.88

    Option 3 Gross Interest = £304.14 or £608.28

If you have £5000 then Option 2 is the best but it is completely dependent on using the right feeder account.

ie Option 2 (Assuming use of the 1.5% account as the feeder account) Gross Interest = £241.92

If you have £10000 or more then Option 3 is the best.

There is of coarse another option (helpfully suggested previously) if you have a spouse who is taxed (or not) at the same rate as you then

As Option 2 except get your spouse to open the 6.1% account and use that to feed your 12% account Gross Interest = £374.50 or 678.64

No doupt someone will put me right if I got my sums wrong.

You can only put £3000 into the regular saver. A £5000 or £10000 'investment' is not possible.

Edit: Also there is a current maximum balance of £2500 for the Premier Direct account before the rate drops to 0.1%.

I'm the same. Applied via quidco and the £0.00 rated transaction has tracked but as per quidco info, the £50 one hasn't appeared yet. I think there's a problem with cookies if you've visited the A&L site before and cookies have been set on your computer, they will override the quidco cookie and it won't be tracked. Quidco state that they won't entertain this type of query and won't pay out on it. There was small type at the bottom of the screen prior to clicking on the link to the A&L site via quidco. You had to clear your cookies prior to clicking the link.

If I were you I'd be thanking my lucky stars as you now have the opportunity to make £95 from a voucher referral. But, if you prefer £50 from Quidco...

Last time I had a 12% account was at the end of the 1980's. this is a great rate.
