Just happened by, doing a wee lurk...
Blairweech, you could try contacting the uni. They will have some kind of office called something like 'student support' or 'student services' where you can get advice and perhaps access discretionary help.

I know someone who part-financed a postgraduate degree by reading tarot cards over the phone. She was self-employed and could choose her hours of work. Because her earnings were low (but enough to live on) she didn't pay tax. She would sit with her headphones on and her textbooks propped up in front of her, waiting for the punters to ring. She didn't lose time travelling to work or have to wear special clothes.
Hope it works out for you.

    Hi and welcome home BAILS!!

I've been spring cleaning one room every week to free up Saturday for playing in the garden and on the lotty. We need some warmth in the sun here, seeds have germinated but have been at a standstill for the past week.

Lyndasharp - I grew tomatilo last year and they were brilliant, interesting, tasty in lots of dishes and kept a log time. This year I couldn't find any seed for sale. Where did you get yours? Or was I just looking in the wrong place?

I took 5 carrier bags to the charity shop on Saturday rather than list it on Ebay - my little bit of giving to a good cause.

    Good night
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

    Good morning everyone,

First, thankyou to everyone who wished me well re: uni, and you all had very good ideas which will really help :) I am touched by all your kindness and wonderful thoughts :heartsmil

I completely understand my Dads agitation, it is a lot of money and an 'unexpected expense' for him as it were (I think he may have bought a new car with the money that was originally put aside, because he didn't think I was going to go). Both my parents are retired, and their investments have taken a masive hit in the recession, so they are distinctly 'poorer' than in previous years. So if they would struggle to afford it, that is absolutely fine and understandable and there are ways around it. It is the lack of discussion which galls me, so I am stuck in limbo, and in the meantime the uni digs are filling up, I have to get my student finance form in etc. If I need to defer to save up for a year, then I would rather know now so I can get it sorted and get 'back on track'. I didn't mean to paint Dad as such an ogre, he isn't really, but he is very old fashioned and he doesn't like change.

Anyway had a day at work yesterday and it's a lot heavier than my last job, so I am aching today! Working again today, thurs, fri so thats good. Going to play in the garden this morning as its quite a nice day. Have a good one :money:

Blairweech so pleased you are feeling a little better even though nothing has been resolved yet. Yes it must have been a shock for your Dad if he had already spent the money and we all have moments when the finances we have dont cover our needs. Thats not discounting how you feel about the whole business of going to university and not getting the support you were expecting from your parents. Dont give up the dream though, who knows what the future holds for you so hang on and be patient for a while, I'm sending strong positive financial vibes to you as I write this. ;)

I had to have a taxi back from the Health Centre today or wait until 12 15 which would be a wait of over an hour, that was a financial shock as my budget does not cover things like that but no doubt I will survive...didn't somebody write a song including those words :D I think I will need to make another list now.
    Keep to £400 a month on C/C.

  • Afternoon all. Have spent the day hoofing it up and down the M1 for work. Beautiful sunshine, but some drivers are just MAD. Home now and having a quick cuppa in between emails. Seeds look magnificent in the little plastic greenhouse, but keeping them in there for a little while longer as the weather man tells me its going to be minus 4 tonight. Brrrrrrr - keep everything covered girls. Clearing out the freezer and found a beef stew which I had forgotten. So guess what's for tea? And making a chicken curry with some meat I found in there which will do us for tomorrow.

    Hello All

My baby boy was born on Saturday afternoon weighing 7 pound 1 and we are both doing well:)

I am hoping to be back on line next week to catch up with all the news.

DH is even frugalising whilst on paternity leave and has picked up some ped chum at £2.50 for 6 at the local Nisa.:T I was very impressed that he spotted a bargain, rang me to check it was a good deal and bought a load. The offer is on for 3 weeks so we will be going back to stock up. I have even caught him comparing prices of formula tonight! I think he is converted:A
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75

:beer:Congrats Xspender. Hope your little man lets you get plenty of rest.

Your DH made me chuckle. My DH got so stressed out when i had DS1 that he forgot to feed our cats in over a week as i was kept in hospital for that time. I got back and knew straight away as they were so skinny. It reminded me of then. :D
