These days Gold and Platinum cards mean nothing in most cases - you can get a Platinum card with some providers with a salary of 10k a year.

Also Premier Bank Debit cards are available from some banks if you pay the monthly £20 charge for the packaged bank accounts. I only think those accounts are worthwhile if you travel enough to make use of the free travel insurance and don't get it from anywhere else.

Saying that I do pay £300 a year for Platinum Amex ChargeCard, but I do make sufficent use of the benefits to make it worthwhile (PriorityPass for free access to airport lounges, upgraded status on Hilton, Sheraton and Radisson Hotels which always means a room upgrade when travelling with work, free BA Amex Premium Plus card which generates enough miles for me and a friend to fly first class to North America for free each year etc....)
  • I got a platinum amex and it dont cost anything. Only trouble is not everywhere takes it so you need a mastercard or something too.

Arent vanquis the ones with mega high interest rate that they give to people with bad credit?

Platinum Amex Charge Card and Platinum Amex Credit Card are two different products. Creid Card is free, but doesn't give the benefits of the charge card.

Customer 1 just makes me think they're either silly enough to pay £25 a month for their bank account, or they actually use the extras.

    I'm customer 1!

    Have LTSB Premier debit card
LTSB Premier duo MasterCard & Amex

but I do use the extras lots! And the slight difference in airmiles on the credit cards is helping toward next years holiday, and spend over £15k and get the free partner ticket, it's a winner!
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
