Best Way To Commute From Leeds to Manchester..
Hi All,
Have a real dilema and need some advice. I may have an opportunity to take a new job however it would mean making the commute from Leeds to Manchester everyday. Now the journey itself isnt a major issue but I need to weigh up the potential cost against the financial benefits of taking the job to see if it will be worth my while.
Trains - It looks like this would take 1.5hrs each way and the best cost I can find is £300/month for a pass. Anyone seen anything better?
Car - I would need to buy a car and would want a decent one (£10-£12k) so would need to factor in loan/hp payments, insurance (max no claims) and fuel which I think would be £300/month unless i bought a "whizz" (which i wont be doing!). My maths make this option very expensive and it almost negates any financial benefit from taking the job but have i over-egged the potential costs (i reckoned £700/month total)???
Dont think buses or flying are options!
Any help solving this conundrum would be much appreciated!
Thanks

A monthly season ticket is £232.00.
Where did you get £300 from?
There is a cheaper season ticket for very early morning travel at £143.70.

How do you get 1.5 hours each way from Manchester to Leeds?0

£300 is for from where i live in the suburbs into leeds city centre and then across to manchester and back each day....
I had no way of knowing that, did I?
I was trying to beat £300 Leeds to Mancester.
If you aren't going to tell us the detail, we have no hope. :beer:0 -
Well it has all changed now that we aren't going from Leeds to Manchester - you must live pretty far out to have a 40+ minute commute into Leeds.
We can't really help or offer advice if we have no idea where you are travelling from and to!0 -

Travelling from Guiseley...
I reckon car costs would be:
£350 p/m lease/loan for buying car
£300 p/m fuel
£50 p/m insurance
Total = £700 p/m
Train = £300 p/m
Additional benefit of taking job, not exactly sure but probably £500-£700 p/m...0 -
The M62 is horrific for rush hour traffic between Manchester and Leeds. I wouldn't wish that commute on anyone, its one of the busiest sections of motorway in the country.
Do try, if you can, to sort out a good train commute.0 -

Yeah those were my thoughts, even though I normally have no issue with driving I dont fancy 4hrs+ doing it every day....0 -
One of my colleagues drives from Brighouse into Manchester every day and it regularly takes 2 hrs, if not longer if there's an accident. It really is not a pleasant journey. I think public transport is amuch better option and less stressfull. Good luck.0
