That is not the alternative. There is no alternative to having an annual service or minimum of a safety check. If your manufacturers intsrtuctions state the appliance must be serviced annually then the manufacturers instructions which are considered a legal document must be adhered to.
The use of a Carbon Monoxide alarm is a recommended additon to your safety not a means to obligate your responsibilities.
Further there is only one CORGI approved Carbon Monoxide Alam on the market currently.0 -
I've got a Cover heat Property Protection Plan with the extras for drains, electrics etc. for my rented property. Much cheaper than BG and I've been plaesed with the service.
You get the landlord's safety record and 24 hour call out. The tenant had to call them when there was a blocked drain and they got someone to come out there and then (think it took about an hour and a half) to fix it.

Hi All
Just received my renewal for my british gas homecare 400 breakdown policy. It has gone up again, so I rang to cancel. I was put through to cancellations who obviously tried to talk me out of it, with various reasons why i should carry on.
In the end (after 9 mins) they offered a 10% discount on the whole price if i stayed. :T Now cheaper than last year
worth a try for anyone who wants it:beer:Never pass up the opportunity to take a pee!:p0 -
Hi Guys,
I wanted to ask about the initial inspections, i'm currently with Powergen for boiler and central heating care, i took the policy out about a week ago. My boiler broke down within a few days - "Guess I was lucky to take the policy out" I called them out and they asked about the initial inspection, i told them that no one had come. The guy was really friendly he said that they require an initial inspection, however cover starts as soon as the form is filled in online. I am really confused... if cover starts as soon as the form is filled in, what happens if the boiler breaks down prior to the inspection being carried out. I phone powergen today and they said the parts are going to take 7-10 days to arrive and the cost is £400, i told her I had the the cover.. she said yeah.. then she asked about the initial inspection.
In the terms and conditions it says that the cover starts as soon as the form is filled in and submitted. it does say stuff about the initial inspection being carried out within 28 days but nothing about this coinciding with the cover initiation. I am without hot water and heating, also our showers work of the boiler so no showering facility, I have to wait 7 to 10 days for parts to arrive and I do not know if this is covered. What do I do?? Has anyone faced a similar situation
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks0 -
As far as powergen are concerned, how would they know that your boiler had not been broken prior to you signing up for cover? If you took the policy out,why did you miss out filling in the formonline?0

Looks similar cover to the add-on home emergency cover you take out with egg home insurance. This cost me £31.50, which is almost half that price, but for standalone cover it may well be a good price.koru0 -

PS - I dont work for any of the above companies.Assume 1st – then check the facts!0
