Quote for New combi boiler can someone help?

Hi,

I am normally on Daily Chat and the Debt free board. I would really appreciate some help

Mum has been quoted 4000 pounds to fit a new combi boiler, I am unclear on the extact details but it involves removing the old boiler and water thing (big copper thing?) and putting the new boiler and waste pipe down stairs to the kitchen.

I just think it sound SO expensive. She is a pensioner and trusts British gas (the people who gave the quote).

I know I have few details but my gut is telling me this is wrong? I am right?

Thank you

Buffy xx

It sounds horrendously high to me.
Get in touch with Age Concern, or Warmfront.
Age Concern are giving grants ( £400 I think towards new boilers), but that quote seems to high anyway.
I got ours done by a local small firm much cheaper (less than half of your mom's quote).

My friend has just had the lot fitted by Warmfront and is very pleased, though some people aren't happy with the wait for it?

Don't just buy, always shop around first even if it's only for a loaf of bread

BG prey on the elderly, who feel they are the only ones to trust:eek:
  • It's a very high quote.
If you can pursuade her to get 2 other quotes from local companies then go for it. They will probably quote lower.

More like £2500, doubt anyone would do it for much less.

That really is a ridiculous price. They want reporting for that!

Why don't you go to mybuilder.com - post your job and get 3 quotes from different plumbers. That way - you will get a more realistic quote. Make sure they come and see the job first before quoting.

    Good luck
