They're currently unused, but I did liberate 6 wire supermarket baskets last week, which had been flung into the trees surrounding the carpark. Mr T's people didn't want them - some had excellent leaf mould clumps therein - so they're awaiting ideas, too. They look to be good planters and will hang up well.

I know someone who used these as storage by nailing them to the wall in their spare bedroom. (It was a male student!) But if you did it in a shed or garage it might look better!!

ive been using plastic cake tubs(round victoria sponge type with the lid attached) as window sill propagators, also the little lidded tubs that cherry tomatoes come in...and ive been using the polystyrene trays that apples etc come in and old egg boxes for chitting potatoes.
ive also got a bag of mixed size plastic bottles on standbye to use as mini cloches for when i get my plants out.

For precision watering I have always used 1ltr fizzy drink bottles with 4 or 5 closely arranged pin holes in the caps. I used a heated darning needle - remember those?!

When inverted and squeezed the water will come out but stop squeezing and the water stops immediately. Ideal for seedlings.

If you fill several of these and leave them in the greenhouse to warm up the seedlings don't get a shock with cold water.
  • I use plastic milk bottles/cartons for growing carrots and parsnips in last year and they worked very well.

Today i made a 2nd raised bed with an old chest of drawers(minus the drawers...its not as wide as my B+Q one,but a lot deeper,so better sized for potatoes, carrots and beetroots.:)
might paint the outside of it tho,to make it look a bit more "gardeny"
