Thought Pans NEVER misbehaved!!:D

Don't believe it! After 11 months, our set developed a green line down the middle of the screen. Fortunately I bought it locally and they ordered the part (can't remember exactly what it was - I want to say tube but I know plasma's don't have them. Would it be a panel of some sort? ), they took my TV away in the morning and I got it back before suppertime. That was about 2 years ago. The engineers said that they'd had this before on the 42'' Panny's but ours was the first 50'' with the problem.
I was blaming the Skybox for the TV going off - as the Skybox is a bu**er (it turns itself off too)! Could it be the surge protector to blame? There are 6 of us here and there are loads of electrical stuff (TV's, consoles, computers, etc) on a lot of the time.0 -

"" Would it be a panel of some sort? "" - ' Power Board ' is a likely culprit, it apply's to all brands in general and Samsung in the particular.
It also apply's in equal measure to both LCD's and Plasma panels, the very fact that this ' issue ' happens when the signal is from Sky / Virgin / xBOX / Playstation /Sat etc is I think a [ coincidence ] distraction.
The hope that the manufacturer of the set, or, the sale of goods act or the retailer will help other than the statutory minimum is never going to happen. Tens of thousands of sets have gone down worldwide and three years later Samsung is still not accepting responsibility.
The component part, the actual problem itself can be bought for about a £uid from Maplins, usually two are needed , repair companies vary from £100 to replace the two capacitors to Curry's etal [ because they are incompetent / or / greedy ] replace the whole board at around £250.
I did a post on this a couple of months ago, if I can find the thread I'll come back here and link you to the thread, but I'll leave you with these two sad truths
- one : the aluminium electrolytic capacitors in question [ the ones Samsung fit ] are 105 degC / 1000uF / 10V . The voltage required is 8V, this means that the capacitor is only just capable of doing what it's supposed to do, always on the extreme edge of it's capability, has no design slack whatsoever, and is clearly going to fail sooner rather than later .. .. .. I repaired mine with over spec 25V !
- two : the lifespan ( mortality ) of all but military quality capacitors, the so called ' long life ' [ no joke that's what they call them ] is very very short. I divided the lifespan into an average family switching on a 4pm as about 4 years, and a pensioner / disabled person sitting at home from early to midnight as one and a half years.

Which may help you guys understand why I am so upset about this. Just can't understand why we deserve so much bad luck!?!?
