Speak to Shelter for advice on all housing issues, and Samaritans for emotional ones if necessary. You will get great free advice from both. I would especially recommend that you speak to shelter before your housing appointment.

    Freephone!

You will be fine and will not be homeless again very soon, though you may have to consider quite basic accomodation.

The Shelter website gives good information about the homelessness application process with the local council, what they look for and how it will be assessed, their obligations towards you and the steps involved.

If you are single, Crisis is also a good charity for homelessness advice.

Are you working or in receipt of LHA/JSA? Are you disabled?

EDIT - In an earlier post, you mentioned that you might sign over your share of the property to your ex. Though the info you provide is only slight and so I can't make any great judgement on it, if you have done this, you may have to be consider whether this comes under the category of 'intentional homelessness'. You mention you lost the property but not the circumstances so its hard for anyone on the forum to give advice on how the local authority may consider your application.

Intentional homelessness is where a council rejects the homelessness application on the basis that the person has done something that has triggered their current situation and could have stayed in the original property. It tends to cover things like eviction through rent arrears or leaving a tenancy before the contract or notice period was due to expire, for example. Your situation is much more complex that than these more standard examples as it involved a relationship breakdown and home ownership, therefore its just something for you to be aware of and investigate further. I imagine this rule isn't applied to properties that have been repossessed at a guess - speak to Shelter anyhow.

Start a claim for JSA if you haven't already then get onto your Local Authority's website and find out what their LHA is (Local Housing Allowance). Then you'll know what kind of help you'll get towards your accommodation costs. Some LA's have a list of LHA-friendly landlords
